CREDITON - Sunday June 19
was celebrated as Fathers' Day in
the Sunday School in church. Call
to worship was led by Harry
Schroeder, the Sunday School su-
perintendent.
The sermon topic was taken from
John 21:1-14. Mrs. Val Hodgins
was the guest speaker, her message
was acted out by clic children and
her taking parts in a puppet show.
Mrs. Joyce Preszcator was our pi-
anist. Thanks to Val, Joyce and the
children who took part. The chil-
dren received their awards for atten-
dance. Choir practice is Wednesday
evening at 8:00 p.m. in the cb.urch
sanctuary.
Vacation Bible, School is August
22-26. Plan to have your children
"discover God's Power at the Won-
derfaire".
We have some volunteers for
teachers and helpers for this week,
but others are still needed. If you
can help, please contact Mary and
Brian Elder to volunteer.
The Cemetery Decoration service
will be held next Sunday, June 26,
1988 at 10:0 a.1n. here at.Zion
United Church. The speaker will be
the Rev. Brian R. Elder. '

Former Centralia teacher dies

CENTRALIA - Verna M. Hicks,
widow of Lorne (Dooley) Hicks
passed away in South Huron Hospi-
tal, Exeter, on Saturday in her 86th
year after a courageous battle.with
illness.
She was a valued member of the
teaching profession with 33 years
of service, 22 of those years were
spent in Centralia Public School.
She was an active member of the
United Church and the'wdmens or-
ganization. The deceased, following
retirement travelled extensively and
her experiences were willingly
shared with various groups in. the
presentation of slides and interest-
ing commentary.
Church news
At the United Church on Sunday,
June 20 ,a service of Holy Com-
munion was held with a good crowd
in attendance. Rev. Carter chose as
her topic "0 Absalom, Absolom".
Next Sunday June 26 will be
Sunday School Anniversary service
at 11:15. This will be an open-air
service at Centralia Community
Park. In case of rain service will be
held at the church. Following the
service a potluck lunch followed by
picnics and games. Bring your lawn
chairs, dishes and cutlery. Cold
drinks provided. Dress is casual.
Vacation Bible School will be
held July 18 to 22 from 9 to 11:15
a.m. at the United Church basement
for ages five to 12 years. The theme
is Getting to Know God. There will '
be a theme time, activity centres, I
games, snacks, singing and worship `
each day. Helpers are still needed.
Miss Barbara Wilson bride elect
of early July was the guest of hon-
our at a shower in Centralia United
Church basement on June 8 at
which she received many beautiful
gifts. Barb thanked all for the gifts
and the ladies who got up the show-

Community Centre on Monday

honourary degree in E.C.E. at
Lambton College. Connie has ac-
cepted a position on the teaching
staff of Stepping Stones Nursery
school, London, with duties to
commence August 2.
Tony, Mary and Elizabeth Conlin
and Tom and Mary' Kooy were
guests Saturday at the Tomaszew-
ski-DeJong wedding in London. Ka-
thy is the daughter of Klara and the
late Pieter Delong who were former
residents of this locality. The wed-
ding was held at St. Josephs R.C.
church with a reception in the
Polish Hall.
Tom and I were Friday evening
dinner guests with Mrs. Helen Mac-
Dcnald. Lucan.
