Thompson's and Hensall Co -Op purchased the champion and reserve champion calves at Saturday's Hensall Fair. The champion calf sold for $1.52.5 per pound and the reserve champion went for $1.45 a pound. Parkhill Club PARKIf1LL - Over 40 seniors, some from Parkhill, returned re- cently from a week's trip to Deer Lodge at Haliburton. All report a super time. The following awards were hand- ed out: sweetheart of the week - Laura Hodgins; gentleman of the week - Garnet Hicks, Exeter. Kangaroo Court was held with "hanging judge" John Tclejuer and "lawyer" Ruth Schram. This was a riot. WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD - The Church In Society Committee was in charge of the UCW meeting on Monday evening in the church basement. Alma Ballantyne wel- comed everyone and gave the theme "Thanking God". Anne Bray gave a reading "Look To The Li- lacs". Helen Hodgcrt read the scripture Matthew 7:15-22. May Rowcliffe and Anne Bray received the offering with prayer by Alma Ballantyne. After a humorous reading by Mary Roweliffe, Helen Hodgcrt in- troduced Miss Barbara Forbes of near Clinton. Barbara is on the staff of the Bluewater Youth Cen- tre. She showed pictures and talked about her work. She was thanks by Joan Morgan and presented with a donation. June Stewart opened the business part of the meeting with a poem "Be Pleasant". Roll call was an- swered with "Who could you or have you visited in the last week?" by 29 ladies. Minutes and corre- spondence and the treasurers report were received. An invitation was read from the ladies of Cromarty to meet with them July 20 and with Kirkton on September 14. Ann Kernick gave the manse report. The fall regional will be held in Hensall United Church on October 24. June closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by Group U and a social time followed. Church service Rev. Teddy Smits was in charge of the combined church service on Sunday morning at Elimville Unit- ed Church. The choir sang two numbers accompanied by organist Marjorie Johns. Rev. Smits told the children a story. He had an electric lamp. But the lamp had to be plugged into the power and turned on before it would work. The sermon text was taken from Philippians 4:9, "Put into practice what you learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions." Rev. Teddy Smits spoke about his work here for the past year. This was his last sermon for Elimville and Thames Road Churches. We are very sorry to have him leave. Robert Bray gave a short address and presented the minister with a clock. Teddy replied. Before the service started Rev. Smits and Marjorie Johns played the piano and organ which was much enjoyed: After the service we all went to the basement where a sumptuous smorgasbord was en- joyed. Personals Congratulations to the Kirkton Midgets who won their ball game 20-17 over the Brodhagen team on Sunday evening at Kirkton. MOUNT CARMEL - The June 7 meeting of Our Lady of Mount Carmel C.W.L. was opened with a prayer by Father Dennis Wilhelm. We congratulate him on his recent ordination to the priesthood. Father Dennis thanked the ladies for the gift he received at that time. Theresa Larkin thanked all the la- dies who helped to serve refresh- ments after the celebration of con- firmation on play 19 and alsd a-- thosc who helped at the last coffee Sunday. A craft afternoon is to be held Wednesday, J unc 15, 1988, beginning at 1:30. We'll be work- ing on crafts for our upcoming ba- • zaar and also on the cook book. Please feel welcome to come - lots to do for everyone. A yard, bake and craft sale is be- ing planned for July 2, at Mt. Car- mel schoolyard from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also discussed was the Mt. Car- mel C.W.L. Bazaar to be held Sat- urday, November 12 at the Dash- wood Community Centre, and the organizing of the cook book. Get well wishes are extended to Jack. The. pupils of Agnes Bray, A.R.C.T., R.M.T., had a recital at Thames Road Church on Wednesday evening which was well done and well attended. Some pupils played the piano and others the organ. Sunday, June 19 will be Thames Road Sunday School Anniversary at 11 a.m. Luncheon to follow the ser- vice by the Sunday School mem- bers.
