Preaches farewell sermon
By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE
THAMES ROAD - The Church
In Society Committee was in
charge of the UCW meeting on
Monday evening in the church
basement. Alma Ballantyne wel-
comed everyone and gave the
theme "Thanking God". Anne Bray
gave a reading "Look To The Li-
lacs".
Helen Hodgcrt read the scripture
Matthew 7:15-22. May Rowcliffe
and Anne Bray received the offering
with prayer by Alma Ballantyne.
After a humorous reading by
Mary Roweliffe, Helen Hodgcrt in-
troduced Miss Barbara Forbes of
near Clinton. Barbara is on the
staff of the Bluewater Youth Cen-
tre. She showed pictures and talked
about her work. She was thanks by
Joan Morgan and presented with a
donation.
June Stewart opened the business
part of the meeting with a poem
"Be Pleasant". Roll call was an-
swered with "Who could you or
have you visited in the last week?"
by 29 ladies. Minutes and corre-
spondence and the treasurers report
were received.
An invitation was read from the
ladies of Cromarty to meet with
them July 20 and with Kirkton on
September 14. Ann Kernick gave
the manse report.
The fall regional will be held in
Hensall United Church on October

June closed the meeting with
prayer. Lunch was served by Group
U and a social time followed.
Church service
Rev. Teddy Smits was in charge
of the combined church service on
Sunday morning at Elimville Unit-
ed Church. The choir sang two
numbers accompanied by organist
Marjorie Johns.
Rev. Smits told the children a
story. He had an electric lamp. But
the lamp had to be plugged into the
power and turned on before it would
work.
The sermon text was taken from
Philippians 4:9, "Put into practice
what you learned and received from
me, both from my words and from
my actions."
Rev. Teddy Smits spoke about
his work here for the past year. This
was his last sermon for Elimville
and Thames Road Churches. We are
very sorry to have him leave.
Robert Bray gave a short address
and presented the minister with a
clock. Teddy replied.
Before the service started Rev.
Smits and Marjorie Johns played
the piano and organ which was
much enjoyed: After the service we
all went to the basement where a
sumptuous smorgasbord was en-
joyed.
