Ratz reunion at Shipka

SHIPKA - The 26th annual Ratz
reunion was held Sunday, June 12,
at Shipka Community Centre with
65 in attendance. The new executive
elected were: president - Dorothy
Ratz, Shipka; secretary treasurer -
Margaret Smhh, London; sports -
Elcanor Sharpe, London and Doro-
thy Ratz.
Sports winners as follows: peanut
scramble for pre-schoolers - Fraser
Jones, Caroline Thompson and
Marshall Jeffery. Races four and
five years - .Melissa J.amicson and
Brandon Thompson. Six -year-olds -
Roxanna Thompson and Ashley
Jones. Eight and nine years - Eliza-
beth Collette, Drcrit Ratz. and Mea-
gan Ratz. Ten and eleven years -
Kevin Sharpe, Jason Jamieson and
Ryan Ratz.

Personals
Katherine Raiz, of Toronto, spent
the weekend with her mother, Helen
Ratz and family. Katherine has been
transferred from Halifax to Toronto.
Bailey Louise Lynn, daughter of
Joseph and Deborah Thomson, was
baptized at Greenway United
Church, last Sunday morning by
Rev. R. Peebles.
Mark Adams, London, visited
Sunday with his parents, Don and
Elizabeth Adams.
Orilla Baker attended a miscella-
neous bridal shower for het niece
Lissa Schilbe, of Bayfield arca, on
Sunday afternoon June 5 at Gode-
rich Untied Church. Thee were
about 25 in attendance. Lissa a
bride -elect of early July.
Susie and Wayne Robson, of Es-
sex, with Colin, Sheina and
Brcagh Jane, spent a weekend with
the children's grandma, "Oma",
Annie Zielman and aunt Angie.
Pat and Jake Schroder recently
spent a weekend in Ottawa with
their daughter, Sue Anne.
Hugh and I visited an evening
last week with Lorne and Lorcen
Devine at Zurich.

GRANTON - At St. Thomas An-
glican Church, Rev. Beverley Anne
Whccicr was the Celebrant for the
Holy Communion and morning
prayer service. Kaylcen Roloson
was Server.
Rev. Whccicr based her sermon
on the Holy Gospel of our Lord Je-
sus Christ according to Mark Chap-
ter 4 referring to the parable of the
mustard seed. Church service will
be at 11:00 .a.m. next Sunday, it
being Anniversary Service.
At the Granton United Church,
Rev. Bruce Pierce was in charge of
the morning worship. Rev. Pierce
took his sermon from Lukc 22,
Verses 14-20. The call to worship
was "But now in Christ Jesus, you
who once were far away, have been
brought near through the blood of
Christ for lie Himself is our Peace
who has made the two one and has
destroyed the barrier."
The dividing wall of hostility,
consequently you are no longer for-
eigners and aliens but fellow Chris-
tians with God's people and mem-
bers of God's household. '
The sacrament of Holy Commun-
ion was observed during the service.
Next Sunday the sacrament of bap-:
tism will be observed. Don't forget
the pork barbecue to be held Wed-
nesday June 22.
Vacation Bible School will be
held at the United Church July 18
to July 22. Register with Mary Wa-
ters 225-2194.
Sincere sympathy to the family
of the late Marie Ross who passed
away Saturday June 11 after a
lengthy illness. Her many Granton
friends will remember her as a tele-
phone operator at Granton tele-
phone office.

Institute tours water system

DASHWOOD - On June 7, 19
members of the Dashwood Wom-
en's Institute toured the Lake Huron
Water System at Grand Bend. The
guide, Terry Bender, gave a very in-
formative talk on how the water
treatment plant operates. Before re-
turning to the Dashwood Commu-
nity Centre for a short business
meeting and entertainment, the
members visited the Do -Nut Shop
in Grand Bend and were treated to
do -nuts and coffee.
President Mrs. Etnil Becker's top—
ic revolved around the quality and
conservation of water. In answer to
the roll call, the members learned
many ways to save water.
Martha Weigand gave a report on
the Di,-trict Annual held in 1-lcnsall
and t,1e annual report of the Medical
Centre.
Members were reminded to bring
their log- books to the Curator
Workshop to be held at the Dash-
wood Community Centre at 10
a.m., August 9.
There was a teapot at the door to
receive donations toward the social
tea held in May.
Mrs. Becker discussed the 4 R's
of Waste Management and members
were encouraged to practice recy-
cling during the summer. She dem-
onstrated the use of "Wonder Under"
and displayed many articles she had
made with this product. She also
handed out instructions on how to
make a compost pile.
