The 1987-88 season of the Exeter
junior Hawks hockey club was offi-
ciall com.lcted Friday night with
the annual awards banquet. took over for the start of the 1986 Bogart who steppcci down as pres

a very controversial year, you came
through on the ice. You gave it
your best shot and were beaten by a

Clarke Singer was the first Exeter
junior to ever score more than 50
goals in one season. In addition to
being the club's scoring leader,
Singer was named the most valua-
ble player during the regular season.
The Hawk award presented by
Ron Bogart and his family went to
Jim Lewis. This award goes to the
player displaying the most dedica-
tion, dependability, sportsmanship
and perseverance.
Derck Martin, was named rookie
of the year, George Pratt Jr., the
most gentlemanly: best defenceman

Mark Morrissey and Terry Casey,
most improved. Jeff Ansems and
most valuablc•in the playoffs Scott
Lovie. The Leadership award went
to Jeff Reid.
On the financial side, Ron Bogart
said the club was "in the red" and
asked support for a fund raising fish
fry set for July 22 during Sidewalk
Days.
George Pratt Sr., a member of the
executive and a team trainer said re-
garding the controversies of the past
winter, " I was sort of caught in the
middle. I kept quiet and um glad I
did. Let's put it all behind 4is. I'm
the oldest Hawk on the team and I
will be back again• next year'.
Coach Dave Bogart who indicated
he would not be back concluded his
remarks with, "I'm stepping down.
Those people who criticized me can
now go back behind the bench and
I'll sit back and criticize".
The annual meeting of the team
will be held Wednesday, June 22 at
the Rec Centre: Anyone wishing to
make nominations for the executive
should contact Tom Dalrymple.

EXETER - In squirt action, Exct-
cr I was held to a 1-1 tie by a
strong Bryanston team. After a
scoreless first half Michael Wil-
helm gave Exeter_ the Icad early in
the second half on a nice individual
effort but Bryanston managed to tie
the score a little later in the half and
despite chances both ways the score
remained at l-1.
Tyler Taylor and Jonathan Trieb-
ner played well for Exeter I.
Exctcr II travelled to Nairn to
play Nairn I. In a closely played
contest Exctcr II managed to square
out a 2-1 win on goals by Mau
Szabo and Greg Geoffrey.
Steven Rascnbcrg and Tim Ditncr
played well for Exctcr 11.
. Exeter III remained unbeaten after
three games by defeating Naim II 3-
0.
In the first half both teams were
fairly even but Exeter III took ad-
vantage of the wind in the second
half and scored three limes.
Michael Ford, Brian Hayman and
Adriana de Bont scored the goals
and Ryan Beattie and Chris Frayno
played well for Exctcr III.
In atom play, both Exctcr teams
wcrc on the short end of the score
this week.
Exctcr I travelled to St. Colum -
ban and, despite an excellent game
by goalie Jeff Sararas, still lost 5-1
to a very strong St. Columban
team.
Billy Kline scored the lone Exeter
goal and David Farquhar played well
for Exeter I.
Exeter II played at home against
Grand Bend. Despite some excellent
play by the whole team, Grand
Bend managed to capitalize on the
two brcak aways for a 3-1 margin
of victory.
Bryce Hann scored Exeter's lone
goal.
Exeter Mosquito's finally saw
their first action of the season and
beat Lucan by a 3-2 score.
Exeter was in command for most
of the game and built up a 3-0 Lead.
Lucan rallied in the last couple of
minutes for two quick goals but the
Exctcr win never was in any dan-
ger.
Scoring for Exeter were Shawn
McCann, Marty DcBruyn and Tre-
vor Taylor on a beautiful individual
effort.
Brent Urlin played a steady game
for Exeter.
In the Peewee division Exeter
seems to have two strong teams
this season. Both teams scored easy
victories this week. Exeter I played
well and build up a 4-0 lead against
a young Lucan squad and then al-
lowed a couple of late goals for a 4-
2 win.
' Exeter's goal scorers were Joel
Campbell (2), Marty DeBruyn and
Nick Szabo.
Peter Kantzas and Trevor Taylor
played well.
The Exeter II Peewees had no
trouble in scoring their second win
of the young season as Sivichay
Sengkhounmany scored from a pen-
alty kick en route to a 4-0 win over
St. Columban.
Kevin Johns and Mark Lynn
played well for Exeter.
Coach Susan Hulley was well
satisfied with the effort of her
charges in the girls under 11 divi-
sion despite a 2-1 loss to Delaware.
The Exeter girls were a little
stronger throughout the game but
had trouble putting the ball in the
act.
All scoring took place in the last
10 minutes of the game.
Daniel Lambert gave Exeter the
Lead but Delaware battled back with
two goals of their own to win the
game 2-1. Theresa Stire and Amy
Edwards played well.
In the Under 17 boys division;
Exeter won their first game of the
season without even taking to the
field. Their opponents from Hyde
Park did not show up for their
game.

Locals bowl for War Amps
A total of 31 bowlers participated
in the "Canada Bowls" Saturday
night at the Exeter lawn bowling
club.
Each bowler taking part paid a fee
with half of the amount going to
the War Amps Association.
Larry Rieck was in first place
with two wins, a score of 27 and
plus of six. Grctta Richards and
Elizabeth Lamport wcrc deadlocked
for second with double wins, a
score of 27 and plus of four.
Tied for the next spot were Henry
Trickey and am Bower with two
victories, a ore of 26 and plus of
six.
Other money winners were Ernie
Chipchasc, Gertrude Hamilton and
Marsh Dearing.
Thursday evening because of cold
weather only six players were in ac-
tion.
With 16 howlers in action on
June 7, Walter Spencer was the
men's winner with two wins, a
score of 25 and four plus. Allan
Johns and Gordon Hoggarth wcrc
next.
For the ladies, Marion Dearing
was the top competitor with a score
of 28 and plus of four to go with
two wins. Millie Trickcy was sec-
ond.

EXETER - A total of 28 ladies
took part in tis regular golfing ac-
tion on Tues5hy morning, June 7
at the Exeter golf and country club.
Helen Burton led 'A' flight with
a score of 29 and needed the lowest
number of putts. Grace Drummond
was in with the second best gross
score at 50.
Jean Smith, Jeanette Turner and
Betty Coates with identical scores
of 61 wcrc low in 'B' flight with
Helen Wasnidge next at 62. Low
putts of 16 went to Betty Coates.
Low score in 'C' flight was
turned in by Jean Crerar with a 63
and Theresa McCann was runnerup
at 66. Tied for low putts with 18
each were Donna Paynter, Theresa
McCann and Peggy Ferguson.
Bette Smith, Ina Browning and
Helen Wasnidge were able to par
number 3, Helen Burton shot a par
on number five and Shirley David-
son did the same on number nine.

started thc golf season on the
right notc this week when he
got a hole -in -one at the Iron-
wood Golf Course. Using a
five wood, Melville drove the
ball 224 yards on the seventh
hole to attain thc rarity.

Shaw leads Express in rout
EXETER - Dave Shaw turned in a winning performance against
Strathroy Tuesday night leading Exeter Express to a 14-2 win with
eight innings of solid pitching and five hits to his credit.
Shaw struck five opponents and gave up seven hits during the long
stretch on the mound.
After falling behind Strathroy 2-0 on home turf, Express pounded
home three runs in the third inning and then followed that with three
more runs in the fourth. .
Shutting down the opposition with good defensive play, Exeter
maintained a 6-2 lead until the eighth when they brought home eight
more rubs.
Rob Dickey and Pete Neeney notched two hits each.
Express are on the road to Strathroy tonight (Wednesday, June 15).
They host Walkerton Sunday when the two teams play a double-
header.
