BLYTH - How many cookies do
you need for.•twenty-two perfor-
mances of The Cookie War? Sixty
dozen real cookies and 40 dozen
fake cookies! The 40 dozen fake
cookies include six dozen oatmeal
raisin, three dozen melting -
moments, three dozen matrimony
squares, and 24 dozen of the stars of
the show - the famous crunchy -on -
the -outside, chewy-on-thc-inside
rigglcvakc cookics. The edible
cookies are the 20 dozen real riggle-
vake cookics.
What happens to all these cookics
over the course of a performance?
The cookics get eaten, crushed and
used in a spell. They stock the
shelves of a store called 'The Doily
Cart' - and some of them get
shipped off to New York for test-
ing.
In the great Blyth Festival tradi-
tion, all thc cookies are home-made
- even the fake ones! The recipes for
the edible cookics come from old -
order Mennonite recipes collected in
Edna Stacblcr s book, Food That
Really Schmecks, and arc being
made by members of the Friends of
Blyth, the theatre's special volun-
teers. So far Deborah Ratellel,
Properties Master has enlisted the
culinary expertise of local residents
Evalcna Webster and Beth Fulton.

Fashion Show of March 31, of
and will be frozen, thawed and
'fresh' for every performance. One
of the biggest problems may be
getting the cookics on stage with-
out 'samples' disappearing.
Other food starring in the show
includes green beans, which are
'schnipplcd by a cuisinart and pota-
toes which arc peeled - the old-
fashioned way.
Here is Claire Powers' (Properties
Assistant and more recently Cookie
Sculptress) recipe for Rigglevake
Cookie Imposters;
4 parts flour •
1 part salt
1 tsp of alum - preservative
1 1/2 cup water
Mix well,- split dough in two
parts, make one part dark with mo-
lasses (or some sort of colouring),
then roll out both parts to 1/8 of an
-inch thickness. Put the dark on the
light and 'roll up like a jelly roll',
- then slice thinly.
Bake them at 250 degrees Fahren-
heit for two hours.
Do not eat! (John Rutledge,
Blyth resident).

The Lioness were entertained by
the Huron Country Young Compa-
ny, who gave a short version of
their 45 minute show on remem-
brances of past musical history,
along with impressions of actors,
singers, movies and old dance rou-
tines. Just a great show to enjoy,
for a good price at S50.00 for a 45
minute production. This group will
be available all summer for book-
ings such as parties, gatherings,,an-
niversaries etc.
The Lioness have the group
scheduled to perform at the Exeter
Villa on June 15 for the residents.
A group of the Stratford Boychoir
namely Jeremy Brock, Matt God -
bolt, Jeremy Straw, Gavin Spell
and Gavin Poole, sang at the Exeter
Villa on May 31. The Exeter Lio-
ness donated $ 100. towards the
Stratford Boychoir.
The residents have enjoyed the co-
ordinated activities of the Exeter Li-
oness Club, once -a -month and we
look forward to bigger and better ac-
tivities for the up -coming season of
1988-89.
The afghan draw won by Maxine
Hyde, Huron Park profited $344.
for the Lioness. The recent May 20-
