J. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA - Over 40 former mem- bers, 4H leaders and special guests attended the 85th anniversary of the Staffa Women's Institute held in the township hall on Wednesday after- noon May 25. Doris Miller, Public relations of- ficer and Kay Smale, Past president, greeted the guests on arrival with Ellen Vivian and Hazel Harburn in charge of registration. Guests were seated at tea tables which had been decorated with flowers and favours. President, Roberta Templeman, welcomed everyone and opened the afternoons events with a poem "Today" followed by the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Stella Worden gave a interesting history of Staffa Women's Institute, mentioning some special achieve- ments and interesting projects and meetings which had been held. Several special guests . were present, among them London area president, Irene Richardson —brought-grcctingsfrom a message of challenge to continue on with achievements and projects in the years to come stating that the Institute had accomplished much in the past 85 years. Irene was introduced by Grace Kerslake and thanked by Lillian Douglas. The Federated Women's' Institutes of Ontario Board Member for Subdivision 23, Marion Dou- gall, brought greetings and along with Vcrle Mahon, presented life memberships to two faithful mem- bers of Staffa Women's Institute El- len Vivian and Marion McCaughey. A meaningful memorial service for member departed was given by Verle Mahon and the "In Memori- am Book" was on display. Florence McPahil unveiled a plaque commemorating the 85 years of service in the community, of the Staffa Women's Institute to be hung in the township hall, and also acknowledged a congratulatory plaque from the Province of Onta- rio. Two skits were enjoyed by all, "Static" (a busybody visiting a sick friend) presented by Marjorie Drake and Lillian Douglas and three senior citizens reminiscing on the changed meanings of words over the past 85 years, with Margaret Kemp, Ellen Vivian and Orpha Norris, Greetings were brought from Pcrth South District by Barb MacLean first vice president, Jean Ratcliffe, District Curator, and He- len Sinclair, past president, from Laurine McIntosh first vice presi- dent of London Arca, and from Nancy Ross and Rob Black, re- source specialist for Perth County. Staffa s curator, Esther Smale, had the Tweedsmuiur Books and scrap books on display. The anniversary cake was cut by Grace Kerslake, after which every- one sang Happy Birthday Staffa Women's Institute, then closing with O'Canada. Freda Kersalake and Joyce Miller and their committee served anniver- sary cake and ice cream, to bring a enjoyable celebration to a close. News from the Villa EXETER - Hello from the resi- dents of the Villa. June is a very special month for seniors all over Ontario.Opportunity is Ageless is the theme for this year's celebra- tion. Residents were pleased to be able to taste some fresh rhubarb sauce. Thanks for the donations of rhu- barb. It was a real treat to be able to prepare part of our supper. Friday has become barbecue day at the Villa. We enjoyed the meal prepared by the kitchen girls. There's nothing like the taste of barbecued hamburgs and hot dogs. Thanks, girls for all the extra work on barbecue days. The Lioness treated us to a de- lightful program last Tuesday evening. Five members of the Stratford Boy Choir entertained in the Lodge. The boys have wonder- ful voices and we hope to be able to hear them again. Rev. Larry Stojkovic from Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood conducted our weekly workship services. Mrs. Stojkovic was un- able to join us at the piano, as she is staying at home with their new- born son. Get well wishes to Lloyd Morgan and Percy McFalls in South Huron Hospital. Residents and staff extend their sympathy to the family and friends of the late Otto Walker.
