number, and reported the incident to
the Exeter OPP. An officer had
checked out an Olds earlier.
Wedlake found Geddes guilty as
charged, stating that neither he nor
his passenger had produced any evi-
dence to show where he was on the
highway at the time of the accident.
Geddes was fined $53.75, with a
month to pay. He wanted to serve
time instead, but that can not be
done with HTA violations.

EXETER - Nine convictions
were registered while JP Doug
Wedlake presided over court pro-
ceedings in Exeter on May 17.
Most cases came under the High-
way Traffic Act.
Andrew H. Davenport, London,
pleaded guilty to driving while sus-.
pcnded after being stopped for
speeding on April 29 on Highway
81 in Stephen township. Al-
though he produced a valid driver's
licence, a check showed Daven-
port's licence had been suspended
beginning February 19 for fincs
paid with an NSF cheque. His li-
cence was suspended for six
months, and he paid a $250 fine

Paul G. Grandy, also of London,
pleaded guilty to using an unau-
thorized plate. He had been
stopped on May 3 on Highway 4
in Hay township for having a
burned -out right front headlight on
his 1981 Camaro. A CPIC check
showed the plates were registered
to a 1983 Renault. The accused
said he had just bought the Cama-
ro, and used the Renault plates to
drive it home. He was given 15
days to pay a $53.75 fine.
John Marshall, 126 Andrew St.,
Exeter, pleaded guilty to failing to
stop when so requested by an offi-
cer, and guiljy to driving with no
insurance.
Marshall came to police atten-
tion on December 29, 1987, when
his eastbound vehicle swerved into
the path of a cruiser going west.
The officer turned around and pur-
sued the accelerating vehicle to
Marshall's residence. The accused
admitted to no insurance, and had
improper plates on his vehicle.
An ALERT test read "warning".
Marshall's lawyer, Kim McLean,
said his client had been. in Zurich
when his girlfriend had a seizure.
He had been rushing home to get
her medication.
Wedlake said the accred could
, have stopped and explained the
'emergency, and the officer would
have helped. He imposed a fine of
S178.75 on' thc first charge, a fur-
, ther S500 on the second, and gave

Marshall three months to pay.
Kenneth H. Ross, RR1 St. Mar-
ys, pleaded guilty to colour coating
his vehicle's windows so as to ob-
scure a view of the interior. An
officer who stopped him on April
2 on Main St. N. in Exeter could
not sec into the fropt windows on
either the driver or passenger side.
The coating had been applied in
Stratford.
Ross was fined $53.75 with 15
days to pay, and advised to have the
coating removed.
Kazimiera Bielaw;Jci, RR2 Grand
Bend, was found guilty of speeding
75 km in a 50 ziine on March 17 on
Highway 83 in Dashwood despite
pleading not guilty.
Biclawski had declined to view the
radar, and had refused to sign the
ticket. She had left her car at a deal-
er's in Exeter, and was driving an
unfamiliar one the dealer had lent
her.
Wedlake said no evidence was giv-
en to prove she was driving at a
speed other than that stated by the
police. She paid her $41.25 fine
that day. -
Kenneth Grosse, Huron Woods,
Grand Bend, pleaded guilty to oper-
ating a vehicle while under suspen-
sion. He had been stopped for a
HTA infraction at 7:00 p.m. on
April 15 on Huron St. W. Later
the officer learned that a fellow.offi-
cer had issued the accused a 12 -hour
suspension an hour earlier.
Wedlake imposed a $250 fine
with 15 days to pay, and suspended
Grosse's licence for six months.
Robert J. Mathers, Sarnia, was
found guilty in his absence of driv-
ing while suspended when stopped
for speeding on March 7 on High-
way 83 in Usborne township. H's
licence had been suspended cffec 'e
May 4 for unpaid fines.
Mathers was fined $2
days to pay, and his icenc r as
suspended for six months consecu-
tive to any other suspensions.
Gecrald Isaac, RR 1 Grand Bend,
pleaded not guilty to failing to pull
over and stop for an emergency ve-
hicle.
New minister
for Caven
EXETER - Rev. Fraser Stin-
son has been called to be the
new minister .at Caven Pres-
byterian Church, Exeter and
Carmel Presbyterian Church,
Hensall. He is expected to
take up his duties in our
midst early in July. Mr. Stin-
son is at present serving at
the Presbyterian Church in
Rosctown, Saskatchewan.
In preparation for the arrival
of Mr. and Mrs. Stinson the
congregations have purchased
thc house at 182 Carling
Street for a manse.

Ron McLinchey a driver for Hoff-
man's Ambulance, testified he had
been dispatched to an accident at
Highway 4 and 84 in Hensall on
March 7. He started following
Isaac's transport truck east on 83 at
concession 4-5. He had his warning
lights on, but didn't turn on his si-
ren until the bridge.
A" police officer testified he had
seen the ambulance following the
truck, and had observed the truck
pull out and pass a vehicle at con-
cession 2-3. The passed vehicle
pulled over to the side of the road.
The officer stopped the accused by
the Big 0 cast of Highway 4.
The accused said he did most of
his driving in the US, where vehi-
cles are not required to pull over for
emergency vehicles. He was aware -
of the ambulance behind him, but
thought traffic was moving well,

Clayton Geddes, Scafonh, entered
a not guilty plea to a charge failing
to give an on -coming vehicle half
of the roadway. Don O'Rourke tes-
tified that he headed for the ditch
when an Oldsmobile veered into his
lane on March 14 as he was travell—
ing on Highway 83 in Usborne
township. He hit a mailbox and an
"Exeter" sign.
The other driver turned and came
back, he and his passenger denied
any responsibility, and sped off.
