Schade, Cox combine
for Juniors no-hitter
Doug Schade and Terry Cox
shone a bright light on the future of
Co-op Juniors Thursday night when
they combined for a no-hitter to
lead their team to a 4-1 win against
Exeter Express in seven innings. It
is the first time Exeter's Junior
team has defeated the Seniors in the
Great Lakes Men's Baseball
League.
Express were kept off-balance by
four year veteran Schade and second
year Cox. Their hardest hit was de-
livered by Dave Shaw who knocked
a fly ball out into right field to end
the game.
Don Currell, coach of the Jun-
iors, was pleased with their first
performance of the season.
"The kids got some really timely
hits,"Currell said. "They played
really well for their first time out.
"If that's an indication of where
we're going, we're going to have a
pretty good year."
Seniors took the lead by getting a
run off Schade. After a lead-off
walk, Express eventually scored on
a wild pitch.
It was 1-0 for Express when
Schade left and Cox came in to pick
up the win with three innings of
hitless relief.
Hit by a wild pitch, Darcy Mar-
tin found his way to first base in
the bottom of the fifth. He advanced
to second on a single by Scott Rus-
sell and then Steve Neil brought.
him home with a single.
A single by Darren Neil and an
Express error which put Brent
O'Brien on first pushed Steve Neil
'into scoring position and then Jeff
Butler singled to bring both Neils
home. -
In the sixth, Schade walked, then
stole second and third. A single by
Cox allowed Schade to score.
Dave Shaw kept Juniors off the
bags and was nursing his own no-
hitter until the fifth when the bot-
tom dropped out. Dave Atthill came
in to relieve Shaw.

day night (May 17) before shutting
out Corbett 17-0 Wednesday night.
The wins leave Exctcr undefeated in
three games this season -- a good
indication that they may repeat last
years sterling performance.
Heidi Elliott and Patti Down
shared the pitching duties against
Parkhill giving up seven hits and
allowing one tun.
Greys took a two run lead in the
first inning after Tammy Mathers
got on base on an error, went to

Nethery later scored when Sandy
Fremlin hit a triple.

ond inning. Alice Dietrich advanced

Centennials recover from deficit; down Nairn
NAIRN - Exctcr Centennials re-
mained undefeated in their second
game of the season when they hand-
ed Nairn a 3-2 loss on the road in
Western Ontario Soccer League ac-
tion.
Despite several excellent scoring
.chances, Centennials fell behind 1-0
after Nairn scored near the 30 min-
ute mark"of the first half.
Failing to work together on the
attack, Exctcr lacked movement off
the ball but they came out in the
second half with the full intent to
improve that aspect of their game.
Ten minutes into the second half, .
Centennials tied the game on the
strength of a goal by Jerry VanDc-
Waile.
Applying pressure with a well-
balanced attack, Centennials were
rewarded again when Maurice
VanDcWalle put the ball in the net
FfsallallirdrIt
after being set up by Dale Regier.
That goal gave Exeter a 2-1 edge
over Naim.
Jerry VanDcWalle then gave Cen-
tennials some rdom to breathe with
his sccond goal• of the game.
Exeter goalie Craig Winbow held
the line with a good performance in
net as Nairn pressed late in the
game.
The home team's persistence paid •
off, forcing an Exctcr mistake. A
shot to clear the Exctcr net was
driven into the goal by a Centenni-
al.
Exctcr was able to hold out for
the win.
Centennials arc home in their
next match Sunday (May 29) when
they host London Real West. Game
