Paul's Anglican Church Sunday

THAMES ROAD - The United
Church Women held their May
meeting. on Monday evening in the
church basement with 29 ladies in
attendance. Judith Parker welcomed
everyone and gave the theme "On
Finding A Blessing In Life's Strug-
gles".
Janis Richardson led in prayer.
Ann Kenrick read the scripture Gen-
esis 32:22-32 with Judith taking
the part of the angel and Janis tak-
ing the part of Jacob. Judith gave
the meditation "The Christian
Life". Ann and Janis assisted with
the meditation. The offering was re-
ceived by Ann and Janis with prayer
by Jean Coward.
Judith,gave the study on "Coping
With Crisis" with readings about
tornado victim Verna Cope, about
financial struggle of Glenda Town-
send, about a fire victim Fran So-
merville, Ann and Janis also assist-
ed
Janis introduced Loralee Marshall
of Kirkton, who spoke on her kid-
ney transplant which was very in-
formative. Judith Parker thanked
Loralcc and Janis presented her with
a gift and a cheque for the kidney
foundation.
The ladies put on a skit "Farming
Takes A Woman's Touch" which
was very huinorous. Those taking
part wcrc Ann Kernick who was the
hostess, June Gaily of a talk show,
Useless Eunice was played by Mari-
on Cann, Frantic Freeda played by
Alice Cann, Marvellous Marge,
played by Judith Parker and Messy
Missy, played by Janis Richardson.
President Junc Stewart welcomed
everyone and opened the business

Rev. Teddy Smits was in charge
of the Mother's Day church scrvicc
Sunday morning..Psalm 5 was read
responsively. Tlie choir sang two
numbcrs Mother of Mine and A
Mother's Day Prayer accompanied
by the organist Miss Agnes Bray.
Rev. Smits told the children's
story. Water has -an attraction for
young and old. But it also is a dan-
gerous friend. We must be very
careful when we go into a boat or
when we swim.
in his sermon thc Rev. Smits
spoke about the comments made
by two men Who wcrc about to re-
tire from life. One was Joshua. Af-
ter leading his people through
battles antl stormy passages, he
speaks' to them for the last time
and says: You must make your
choice yourself. But as for me and
my family arc concerned, we will
serve the Lord. -

Spence. It was moved and seconded
we have a Secret Pal for next year.

meeting on May 24 at 7:30 p.m. at

ordinator Mrs. Ellis Strahan.

ing a very. Lively Auction Fun
Game by the Committee in charge.

bers of the Kirkton Women's Insti-
tute sat down to a lovely luncheon
at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday April 28
at Kirkton Woodham Community
Centre for their Annual- meeting.
Mrs. Doris Spence, Butsy Parkin-
son and Evelyn Wiles were the
committee in charge. The Roll Call
was answered by Smile and pay
your fees.
It was announced the District An-
nual meeting will be held at Se-
bringville Community Center on
May 17, the delegates being Mrs.
Wm. Spence, Mrs. John Rodd and
Mrs. Dave Williams. Kirkton W.I.
are responsible for "In Memoriam."
It was.decided we send a cheque of
5200 to Pennies for Friendship to
the meeting.
A resolution was read concerning
the proposed teaching of Agricul-
ture in school from Grade 7 to 12
which would be used as a credit
when entering a college or universi-
ty in Ontario.
It was unanimous vote suggest-
ing thc London arca convention be
shortened to one day beginning in
1989.
Miss Jean Copeland and Mrs.
Dorothy McCurdy were presented
with F:W.I.O. pins for perfect at-
tcndancc.
It was moved and seconded we
will participate in the. Stepping Out
program at the Friendship center in
St. Marys for the month 9f August.
A donation will be sent to the
Children's Aid Society towards the
outdoor adventures for 1988.
We will -be catering to a wedding
in play and also July. It was decided
to cater to the South Perth Gradua-
tion Banquet on Junc 28.

REACH FOR TOP - South Huron sent a team to U.W.O. last weekend to
compete in the provincial finals for the television competition, Redch for
the Top. This was the first time South Huron has qualified for the 18 -team
finals. The team played .10 games and was eliminated before the semi-
finals, but coach Barbara Golding said it was a good -learning experience
