Times-Advocate, 1988-05-04, Page 40Page 4A Times -Advocate, May 11, 1988 Panthers win East Elgin By Sheila Dougall EXETER - The SHDHS girls soccer team captured the champion- ship title of the East Elgin Tourna- ment in Aylmer Saturday, April 30. In the first pme they defeated Saunders, 2-0 in a shootout. In the second game they defeated East El- gin 2-0. Panthers lost to Woodstock Col- legiate .3-2 in a shootout in the third game but still advanced to the championship final as the winner of their pool. In the final, they met a very good Central Elgin team and played them to a dra'.v after overtime. The game then went into a shootout and after Cindy Moore and Bryden Gryseels had scored to tie it at 2 all, Julie Meurer scored on the final shot of the shootout, for a 3-2 victory and the championship. The team playbd extremely well all day and Tina Campbell had a tre- mendous day in goal recording four shutouts and only being scored upon in the shootouts. On the day, Bryden Gryseels, Cindy Moore and Julie Merner had two goals each and Tracy Ratz, Car- olyn Hoonard and Beccy Farquhar scored singles. - On Wednesday, the Senior Soccer Panthers defeated Seaforth 2-1. Track and Field The best results for the track meet in Tillsonburg were Scott Regier, fourth in 400 Hurdles, Sandra Re- louw, second in Long Jump, Brett Rideout, sub five minutes in the 1500 metres, and Marcie Ellison, second in the heat of 80 hurdles. Two school records were also set. The first, by Scott Russell with a time of 22.6 in the 200 metres and the second by Chris Chapman with aummp of 11.54 in the Triple P.
