LUCAN - The Quilt Show held
on Friday at the Lucan United
Church was an overwhelming dis-
play of beautiful handiwork.
There were 190 quilts, all told,
but the variety of patterns and co-

pliqued, embroidered, painted, anis-
tic quilting, quilts and wall
hangings to match and quilted bed-
spreads were draped on every pew

the sanctuary and entry of the
church. Another room displayed all
the crib quilts while still another
called "Donna's Room" displayed
many of her family heirloom quilts
and etc.
Rev. Darrell Shaulc displayed
two beautiful remembrance quilts,
one with scripture verse, "Lo - I
Am With You Always," with an
appliqued portrayal of Christ, also
names inscribed on the quilt of
people in the Bible Study pro-
grams in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan
and presented to the Shaules as a
farewell gift as they left for Lucan,
Ontario in August 1986. The other
quilt was presented to the Shaules
as a wedding gift in 1973 from
Darrell's home church - Cloudslee
United Church near Bruce Mines,
Ontario. It portrayed the Cloudslec
United Church with each block
representing a particular family
with names inscribed. Last but not
least, a large room downstairs dis-

GRAND BEND - Area young-
sters thrilled to the Bear Concert on
Sunday afternoon, as the Grand
Bend Concert Association provided
this special bonus performance to
close the season. The gym floor of
the school was filled with children,
clutching their favorite teddy beans,
while Mom, Dad and Grandparents
used the chairs behind them. Mr.
and Mrs. Berenstein Bear ushered in
the crowds and posed with the kids.
Nan Frccle, new president of the
Grand Bend Concert Association,
introduced the group from the Tap-
estry Music Theatre, through the

for children across Ontario. The
players include Carrie Loring, Phil-

who also played the electric key-
board. Kate Greenway was stage
manager.
The stage was set with flags and
bears of different nations, the key-
board, stools, pots of honey and
berries, and several local teddies, for
extra colour. (A few kids who for-

"Wouldn't it Be Great to be a Bear?"
then with the participation of their
audience, sang "Going On a Bear
Hunt", a great example of action
and songs to tell a story. The kids
(and adults) just loved it!

STEPHEN CENTRAL
SCHOOL - Grade Two This year -
On May 2 John Wayne is coming
back. We are going to have a wel-
come back party. Last month, we
visited a sugar bush. We tasted sap
straight from the tree, maple candy
and maple syrup. It was sweet.
They put numbers on the trees so
they knew how many buckets were
on the trees. Last week we buried a
time capsule. Jason Erickson.
Education Week - To celebrate
the beginning of Education Week,
Stephen Central students let off he-
lium balloons. Our parents visited
for two days. We enjoyed collecting
things for time capsules; then we
had a ceremony to bury one, ani
put the other in the Library. We put
a video tape of Stephen Central stu-
dents at work into our time capsule.

students have been busy at comput-
er activities in our classroom. Eve-
ryone also gets a turn to visit and
work with Mr. Negrijn. We have
been studying transportation and
money. Our classroom is full of
spring decorations and pictures. We
think school must be nearly fin-
ished because we are collecting for
our last book order right now. -

Education Weck - In Education
Weck we play fun games and do
special things. In Education Week
we buried one of our time capsules
and the other goes into the library
until 1993. This year in Education
Weck grades 7 and 8 did a play for
us in the daytime and at night. It
was a very good play. On Monday
we let balloons go. It was exciting.
We watched them for a long time.
Thcn we went into the school to get
ready for home. I felt very good in-
side and happy that it was over. -

Learning About Mass - When we
first started studying mass it was
fun. We brought things to measure

third day. Mrs. Skillcnder said that

agreed with that. The first day was

quilts were interesting, one made
by the Methodist Church ladies in
Clandeboye in 1923 and owned
now by Mrs. Rupert Williams and
the other one was made by the Red
Cross Society in the Exeter area
during the years of 1914-18. Mrs.
Leonard Smith is the owner. Both
had many familiar names on them.
A red -navy -white., hand woven
blanket on loan from Mrs. Joe
Whelihan was made by her grand-

era, it being made from wool from
their sheep, cured and spun on a
spinning wheel.
A crocheted bedspread owned by
