• The Hensall Tyke hockey team
were successful in their auempt to
defeat all opposition in a tourna-
ment in Exeter on Saturday. In
their first game they met the Exet-
er home team and routed the home
team with a score of 11-0. Scoring
Hensall's goals were Jeff Solway
with four, Paul Cooper with three
and Jeff Campbell with two. Scor-
ing singles were Johnathon Tricb
ner and Jeremy Allan.
In their second game the Hensall
team came up against the equally
powerful Huron Park team. In an
exciting match which was eventu-
ally settled in overtime, Jeff
Campbell of Hensall scored the
winning goal with about six sec-
onds remaining on the clock.
Campbell was the star of the day
with five goals in the game. Joh-
nathon Campbell also scored for
Hensall to help with a 6-5 victory.
In their third and final match of
the day and of the tournament the
Hensall Tykes took on a team
In "A" championship at Parkhill tourney
from llderton for the "A" Champi-
on's crown. The final score was 8-
0 for Hensall with goals by Paul
Cooper three, Jeff Solway, Jeff
Campbell, Ryan Munn, Johnathon
Campbell and Jimrny Seaton. Jeff
Rathwell did a super job in goal
for all three games allowing in a
total of only five goals.
The team emerged as "A" Cham-
pions and received individual tro-
phies for their efforts as well as a
banner for display in. the Hensall
Arena.
Watford shuts out Bombers
despite valiant Exeter effort
Exeter Optimists Bombers lost
the Novice A championship final of
the Parkhill Spring break tourna-
ment by the narrowest of margins
March 14 when Watford squeezed a
1-0 victory out of a showdown be-
tween net -minders.
Joey Bierling, in goal for Exeter,
and Colin Aarts, goalie for Watford,
both played outstanding games be-
tween the pipes, thwarting numer-
ous opportunities at both ends of
the ice.
Locked in a scoreless tic after the
first period, Michael Manders put
Watford out in front with an unas-
sisted goal.
The teams continued to battle
throughout the remainder of the
game, but Bombers couldn't match
the goal.
The tight match was an appropri-
ate way for Exeter to end an excel-
lent season.
To make a place for themselves
in the championship final, Bombers
had to get past Forest and Parkhill
Jets. Forest was the greater chal-
lenge of the two.
Bombers took the lead in the first
period when Geoff Mayer scored
from Mark Parsons and Paul Gre-
gus at 8:38. They managed to hold
onto the lead throughout the sec-
ond, but Scott Allen tied the game
with a goal for Forest in the third.
Unable to decide a winner after
three periods of hockey, the teams
squared off in an overtime frame.
At 3:21, with both goalies pulled
and only four men on the ice for
each team, Mayer scorcd for the
sudden death win.
Optimist Bombers found the path
a little easier against Parkhill. Exet-
er claimed a 6-1 win over their op-
ponents.
Greg Geoffrey gave Bombers a 1-
0 lead in the first period when he
scored from David Marshall, but
,Parkhill's J.J. Michelson tied the
game 1-1 after he connected with
Jeremy Slater to score.
With less than three minutes left
in the second, Gavin Poole started
an onslaught which would feature
three goals before the buzzer went.
Poole pumped in an unassisted
goal. with 2:09 left to go and then
Geoffrey scored his sccond of the
game, also unassisted.
Nathan Hem added a goal with 17
seconds left in the middle period.
Exeter dominated the goal -scoring
in the final period with Hern and
Marshall scoring singles. Geoffrey
drew an assist on Marshall's goal
while Hern scored his sccond goal
of the game unassisted.
Bicrling was in net for the win.
Waxers lose "A" Championship in Mount Brydges
London Airport Nissan finished
Waxers hopes of winning the A
championship of a Mount Brydgcs
tourney Friday whcn they defeated
the Exeter Novice team: 3-1 in the
final game.
Waxers fell behind 2-0 in the first
period of the championship game
after Kevin Dunbar and Anthony
Donskov scored for London.
Neither team was able to score in
the -second..
Dunbar made it 3-0 for London
early in the third, -but Exctcr replied
with an unassisted goal from Bryon
Ellerington at 6:32.
Waxers were unable to come up
with two more goals, however.
Exeter worked into the A.final af-
ter trouncing Sarnia 6-1 and then
squeezing out Forest 1-0.
Led by the strong offensive ef-
forts of Bryon Ellcrington who
scorcd two goals and was credited
with two assists, Waxers claimed a
sturdy win..
Ryan Beckett started things off
for Exeter with a goal from Dave
Farquhar and Chad Gilfillan midway
through the first.
Jeff Sararas and Ellerington fol-
lowed with singles.
In the second, Ellerington notched
his second goal of the game after he
scored on a pass from Rob Lynn
and Sararas.
Third period goals from Gilfillan
and,Sararas gave Waxers a decisive
win:
- Game two against Forest was a
different story. •
Sararas broke a scoreless tic in
the second period after he picked up
a pass from Ellerington. That
. turned out to be the winning goal.
Jason Lindenficld earned the shut-
out in goal for Exeter.
Exhibition win
Waxers dominated Huron Park
when they defeated the visiting
team 4-0 Sunday at the South Hu-
ron Rec Centre.
Eric Clay opened the scoring
with a goal at 7:33 of the first. He
was assisted by Chad Dalrymple
and Gilfillan.
Sararas added to Waxers lead mid-
way through the second whcn he
scored from Jeff MacLean. Dalrym-
ple added a goal at 9:37 from GilfiI-
lan to make the score 3-0 in favour
of Exeter.
Ryan Soldan scored the only goal
of the third period from Adam
Hern, closing out the game.
Lindenfield was in net for the
shut. out. His countcrparts at the
other end of the ice, Jason Glavin
and Tom Connor, were busy
throughout the game. Thcir excel-
lent efforts kept the score relatively
low.
