The drive for a new ice resur-
facer got a boost last .week by
confirmed donations _ from a
number of local businesses. •
Big 0 presented the Winter
Sports Council with a cheque for
S750, meeting the challenge set
forth earlier this month. Dash-
wood Industries also donated
S500 while the Rebekahs added
S25.
Xi Gama Nu gave the cause
$300 and Beta .Theta combined
with Alpha Tau to raise $100.
Ellison Travel kicked in $500
the week before last.

The General Government
Committee of the South Huron
Rec Board moved that salary rec-
ommendations made by Rec Di-
rector Lynnc_Farquhar be adopted
at Wednesday's meeting.
Farquhar's plan will give life-
guards a better wage and insure
that attendants are never over-
worked -- a problem she cited as
a safety hazard last season..
With the changers, • the- antici-
pated pool deficit for the 1988
season will be roughly S2,3(X).
In order to cover the cost, the
committee_ recommended that
fees fur seasons passes be raised:
However, noting price hikes
across the board would meet
with stiff opposition, the com-
mittee moved that the remaining
deficit be absorbed by the board.
The recommendations were ac-
cepted. -
Rec Board members expressed
their displeasure over the new .
"notice of occupancy" which re-
duces the Rec Centre -hall's ca-
pacity from,517 to 447.
Exeter Fire Chief Gary Middle-
ton 'made the calculations
through the direction of the Fire
Marsha 1.
Board members speculated that
the change in capacity was the
result of the switch from imperi-
al measurement to metric-meas-
urcrnent.
Bill Mickle requested that fig-
ures be made available, explain-
ing the changes.
The board carried a motion to
request that the Town of Exeter
for-Mally protest to the Solicitor
General.
