Albatross Novices win Zurich tourney
The Stephen Township Albatross
Novice team won the "A" champi-
onship at the Zurich tournament
held February 26-28.
In their first game, they da ea ed
Scaforth 12-0. Darryl Parsons was
the top shooter with his first hat
trick of the season, while Wes Re-
gicr, Nick Parsons, and Greg Hen-
drick each scored twice.
Singles went to Derek Sweitzer,
Jeff Glavin and Kurt Mills. Sweit-
zer also contributed three assists.
In their second game against
Strathroy, Albatross Novices came
out on top 7-0.
Wes Regicr and Derek Sweitzer
had two goals each, while singles
to Kurt Mills, Greg Hendrick and
Jeff Glavin.
The Stephen team then came up
against Bayfield and defeated them
by a 6-0 score.
Derck Sweitzer had two goals and
Jeff Glavin, John Rutten, Wes Rc-
gier and Ben McCann scored one
each. Darryl Parsons had two as-
sists.
The win set up a final match be-
tween Stephen and a team from Sar-
nia.
After a cautiously played score-
less first period, team captain. Jeff
Glavin took a pass from his defence
partner Greg Glanville and raced in
from the blue line to score the
game's first goal. Jeff Glavin then
sent a nice pass to Derek Sweitzer
who made it 2-0. Greg Glanville
assisted on the goal.
Late in the third period, with Sar-
nia pressing for a goal, Kurt Mills
broke out of his own end on a solo
rush and made it 3-0.
Matt Glavin then scored on an
empty net to finish the scoring and
ending the game at 4-0.
Stephen did not allow a goal
against in the tournament. The four
shutouts were shared by goalies Ja-
son Glavin and Tom Connor.
Legionnaires marching to St. Marys
Exeter Bantam Legionnaires
downed Lambeth 5-2 in Shamrock
league playoffs Saturday to advance
to their next series against St. Mar-
ys.
Legionnaires took a 2-0 lead in
the first period when the two teams
met in Parkhill. Thcy increased
their lead to 5-1 in the second.
Ryan Good opened the scoring at
8:43 after he connected with Todd
McCann and Jamie Bedard and then
just 13 seconds later; Mark Burton
had a goal to his credit. Steve Du-
barry and Tim Van Dam drew as-
sists on the play.
Joel Campbell set the pace when
he scored on a pass from Harlon
Tinncy just 22 seconds into the
middlcperiod.
At 5:40, Burton notched his sec-
ond goal of the game from Dubarry.
Lambeth finally put a mark on
the board at -13:20, but Campbell
Generals knocked
Exeter Midget Generals -bowed
out of the Shamrock league•I-inal
tournament Saturday with a 3-1
loss to Lambeth. The tourney, a
single game knockout, was held
in St. Marys to wrap up the
Shamrock regular season.
Generals fell behind 2-0 in the
first period. A goal by Jim Dick-
ins from Henri Dcbruyn and Jeff
Kints kept Exeter close in the
second but Lambeth managed the
only third period marker, putting
Generals out of action.
Dickins played a strong gamc
for Exeter as did defcnceman Rob
Taylor.
OMHA playdowns
An 8-1 win over Dresden gave
Exeter's OMHA playdown record
a boost Wednesday. A penalty
filled match, thc game featured
six Exeter ejections. Jeff Chip -
chase, Frank Wultcrkens, Dave
Dalrymple, Jeff Kints and Larry
out by Lambeth
Lewis were all thrown out.
Generals took a 4-0 lead in the
first and increased it to 7-0 in the
second.
Dickins opened the scoring
with a goal from Kints and Wul-
tcrkens early in the first. Goals
followed by Deric McCann,
Mark Burton (called up from
Bantam Legionnaires) and Gerald
Papplc.
In thc second, Dickins again
set the pace with a goal, then
Doug Clark added a pair to round
out the period.
Lewis was the lone Exeter
scorer in the third.
Doug Kells was in net for
Generals. He nearly clinched a
shut out with the help of Papplc
who normally plays in a forward
position.

nullified any damage done with his
second goal just over one minute
later. David Schwindt and Tinney
assisted Campbell.
Lambeth scored once more in the
third, keeping thc pressure on Exet-
er goalie Jason Clarke.
Legionnaires out -shot Lambeth
40-26.
Defeat Dresden
Legionnaires did, what no other
team has been able to do in OMHA
playdowns Wednesday when, they
beat an undefeated Dresden team 10-
4.
The Exeter burst of power late in
the playdowns does little for Le-
gionnaires though. Losses to weak-
er teams earlier in the round leave
Exeter behind while Dresden will
advance to the -next round with a
slightly better record.
Burton led the team offensively
with three goals and one assist
while Tinney picked up one goal
and three assists.
Burton started the scoring at 6:09
of the first when he picked up a
pass from Dubarry and Schwindt.
Todd McCann added a goal sec-
onds later from Bedard.
In the second, a goal from
Schwindt gave Exeter a 3-0 Lead but
two quick goals from Dresden
whittled down their advantage.
Burton scored again at 5:28 and
then Dresden replied with two more
goals, leaving Exeter clinging to a
6-4 lead as they entered the third.
Legionnaires exploded in the final
period, however, scoring four unan-
swered goals and securing the win.
Tinncy took only 13 seconds to
score the opening goal of the period
and then markers followed by Bed-
ard, Schwindt, Dubarry, Campbell
and Burton.
•
Clarke put on a good performance
in net for Exeter.
Legionnaires finished the round
robin play with a record of five
wins, three losses and three tics for
atotal of 13 points.
