Good year for K -W Farmers Club
Another good financial year in
1987 was enjoyed by the Kirkton-
Woodham Farmers Club.
About 30 members of the club
were told at Wednesday's annual
meeting that sides for 1987 were
up to S1,978,809 as compared to
S1,825,019 for the previous year.
As the club is a non-profit or-
ganization, all profits nue returned
to members in the form of rebates
which were S97,687 for the just
concluded year, In 1986 rebates
amounted to S98,218.
The club now has an accumulat-
ed surplus of S185,144.
Retiring president Burns Blackler
credited the work of secretary treas-
urer Ron Grant in reducing the
amount of accounts rcccivablc and
said, "They, are now at an accepta-
ble level."
At the end of December, 1987,
accounts receivable were down to
S26,763 as compared to S105,820
at the same time a year earlier.
• Adding to Blackler's comments,
Grant said, "As of today the ac-
counts receivable for 1987 have
been reduced to Tess than S3,000."
The secretary treasurer was also
commended by retiring board of
management director Bill Arthur and
the newest director pave Marshall.
The latter in speaking to Grant said,
-"All of your prodding with accounts
certainly helped our financial pic-
ture."
The salary of R6n Grant was in-
creased from S 13,500 to S 14,500
per annum and his assistant Ron
Denham will receive an increase of
S200 to S6,5(X) per year.
Recording secretary David Wheel-
er will receive S50 per meeting in-
eluding the annual session. The di-
rectors will continue to receive $35
for each board meeting.
When Wheeler said the S35 figure
had been set in 1985, director Bob
Hern commented, "We have an obli-
gation to members to keep our re-
muneration at the same level."
Club member Keith Selves sug-
gested directors get an increase at
the• 1989 annual meeting.
A grant of $500 was approved to
the Kirkton Agriculture Society to
be used for 4-1-1 purposes in connec-
tion with the -annual fall fair.
Retiring president Burns Black-
ler's final remarks were, "We should
all try to promote the club. If you
arc in the farming business it's
worthwhile."
Newly elected president John
Simpson said as he took over from •
Blacklcr, "The main object of the
club is to help all members jiy try-
ing to get• the best prices we can."
On the subject of new members
Simpson said, "By paying profits
back at the end of the year, we come
up with prices as good or better
than anyone cisc which should be
an incentive to join."
The club executive consists of
president John Simpson, past presi-
dent Burns Blackler, vice-president
Rick.DeBrahandere and management
committee members Ted Brine, Bob
Hern, Albert Wccrnink and Dave
Marshall.
