The third generation of the fami-

which was founded in Blenheim in.

The Hensall plant, home of thc
company's wholesale grains devi-
sion, was established in 1932. It
was destroyed by fire around
Christmas time in 1949 and rebuilt
in time to receive the harvest the.
next year. .1
llensall is one of the largest of
the company's 13 branches in both
facilities and m1npower. Fifty of
the total of approximately 300
Thompson employees are on the
staff of the local mill.
The I Iensall branch is often used
as a training ground for the young-
er Thompsons, who arc given a
hands-on introduction- to all as-
pects of thc business. Jeff, son of
company vice-president John
Thompson, is currently on the
maintenance staff at the Hensall
branch, after working in the elec-
tric cyc room and the grading -de=

parttnent.
Dale Good, manager of the Hen-
sall plant, has 26 years' experience
in the agri-busincss. He came to
Hensa!1 last year, after five years
with Thompson's Mitchell branch.
"This company is really good to

tomer oriented", Good said. "We
want to be a full-service centre
where farmers can come -to buy
their inputs and market their crop
as well - one-stop shopping."
Besides catering to the needs of
arca farmers, the local branch at-
tracts a lot of "walk-in” trade, cus-
tomers coming for bags of white
beans, popcorn or birdseed. The
birdseed is also packaged for Lo-
blaw's under thc President's Choice
label. •
, Hyland Secds is the company's
own brand. Varieties developed by
Thompson's- are sold both in Cana -
Europe.
