an opening thought and we sang In
Christ There Is No East Or West.
Melonie Miller led in prayer.
June Stewart read the scripture
lesson which was Leviticus 1-7
with Karen Etherington giving the
meditation on it and June read Le-
viticus 8-17 with Karen giving the
meditation on those verses. A read-
ing "Drastic Change" was given by
Melonie Miller and she also read
"What's A Farmer" written by Bill
Brady.
The offering was received by
Margaret Miller and Melonie Mill-
er with June Stewart offering

Love Excelling".

Eisert of near Dashwood). They

months ago and bought a farm near
Dashwood. She spoke about her

"The Meaning Of True Love". The
roll call was answered with "Where
You Met Your First Love".
Our ladies are hosting the World

2 p.m. We are.catering to a wedding
in August, and the Co-op Banquet
in November. We are entertaining

the singing of Bless This House and
the U.C.W. prayer.
June Stewart and Rhoda Rohde
gave a report of the Huron -Perth
Presbyterial U.C.W. annual meet-
ing. Group C served strawberries in
the snow dessert and tea which
brought an enjoyable evening to a
close.
Church service
Rev. K. Teddy Smits was in
charge of the regular church service
on Sunday morning. Smits related
how as a boy, on a Sunday walk
with his parents, he saw a snake.
He stopped to look, and he noticed
that the snake did not move at all.
His father came and had a close
look. He said "This is not a snake,
but the old skin of the snake. The
snake crept out of its old skin, and
went away with a new skin." This
happens to people when they die,
they leave the old body behind and
they move into a new body, a hea-
venly body.

Rev. Smits based his sermon on
the text in St. Matthew 25:36E "I
was in prison and you came to visit
me".
One day the Rev. T. Smits carried
out this commandment. He began
to take a great interest in a young
man sentenced to six years in pris-
on. It was amazing how much the
man changed when he knew that
someone stood behind him. His vis-
its to the prison became a regular
thing and one day the prisoner was
granted parole and walked out.
In Holland the entire prison sys-
tem is geared to the rehabilitation of
the prisoner. A policeman secs him-
self as a civilian in uniform. About
69 percent of the people arrested
never make' it to court. The police
counsel the people they arrested, and
often community services are the re-
sult.
The churches work together in
running a Half Way House where an
ex -prisoner can be for up to a year.
He is taught the practical things of
life, and joins the society as a new
person. Very few prisoners go back
to prison for a second time.
Rev. Smits arisited Dutch prisons
and even conducted a service in a
Dutch prison. In Canada he went
regularly to the Toronto Don Jail
with a group of Quakers. If more
Canadians became interested in pris-
oners, very few would go back as
repeaters.
The flowers at the front of the
church were placed there in memory
of the late Howard Baker by Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn Rohde and family.
Thirty-two people sat down to a
smorgasbord dinner after the morn-
ing service. After the dishes were
finishdd Rev. Smits called the meet-
ing to order, and gave the medita-
tion and prayer. Mrs. Rick Parker
was elected as secretary.
The reports were well received.
Larry Ballantyne is the retiring
member of the Board of Stewards,
Brad Cann is staying on for another
three-year term. The new member is
John Miner. The other members are
Robert Bray. Larry Dawson, Brian
Miller and Dave Passmore.
