A FINAL - The Gaiser Kneale team from Exeter battled it out against the Lucan Hooters in the OV tournament in Hensall. The Hooters finally trium- phed 3-1 as the A champions. Times -Advocate, February 10, 1988 Page 3A Broncos win by two Atom Broncos left a trail of de- struction on the road this week, winning three consecutive OMHA playoff games by two goal margins. A 4-2 win over Lambeth Wed- nesday kicked off the week. Fri- day, Broncos handed Ridgetown a 3-1 Loss and then went on to bump Forest 5-3 Sunday. Exeter Atoms now hold a record of four wins and one loss in round-robin playoff action. A goal by Trevor Truemner with four seconds left in the sec- ond period snapped a scoreless draw and made way for the Bron- co victory over Lambeth Wednes- day. Lambeth matched Truemncr's marker seconds into the final per- iod, but Exeter quickly countered with a goal by Sean McCann. Assists on the play went to Mar- ty Debruyn and Truemner. Gavin Snell followed McCann's goal 36 seconds later oal margins with an unassisted marker of his own and then Mark Foster completed the Bronco binge when he scored from Jamie an Dam and Glen Hines. Lambeth managed one more goal with just over one minute to play in the game. Recovering from a 1-0 lead which Ridgetown established Friday night in the second peri- od, Broncos pumped in three goals in the middle frame to capture their second win of the week. - Snell opened the Exeter scor- ing when he put the puck in the net from Ted Hoffman after 30 seconds of play in the sec- ond period. McCann waited less than one minute before following suit. Debruyn assisted McCann. An unassisted goal by Ian Jean put the game out of reach for Ridgetown. Broncos found themselves in a tough game Sunday when they travelled to Forest. Again, nei- ther team was able to score in the first period, but things blew open in the second. McCann, assisted by Truerim- er, blew the lid off the game by scoring consecutive goals at 5:32 and 9:11 of the second. Snell added a third goal at 9:55 after he picked up a pass from Debruyn and goalie Darren Kints. At 11:20 Truemner seemingly put the game. out of Forest's reach with a goal. McCann drew the lone assist. Forest exploded in the third, scoring three quick goals in the opening minutes of play, but Hoffman gave Broncos some add- ed insurance with a third period goal. Snell drew the assist on Hoffman's goal. Broncos have one more game on the road Saturday in Dresden, but they return to Exeter Sunday to begin a four game home Waxers Continued from page 1A sisted goal by Beckett in the third gave Exeter the single point. The Exciter also finished second in 'A' Stock, second in 'AA' Stock and third in 'A' Improved Stock. Again, running for Team Circus on Edwards' XLV, Regier finished second in the Powder Puff 'C' Stock class. Overall points for individuals were announced at the Grand Finale. Eickmeier captured all -points for the weekend with a score of 112, giving -him first place overall. Finishing fourth overall with 100 points was Edwards on his XLV Yamaha of Kirkton. There was a three point difference between' the top three drivers with only twelve points separating first and fourth. They will be loading up and leav- ing Friday for Ennismore, Ontario and the World Series Drag Racing Championships. Crunchers tie Bell Atoms Exeter Crunchers and Bell Atoms clashed in Shamrock exhibition ac- tion Sunday, fighting to a 2-2 tic. After a scoreless first period, Crunchers took a two goal Lead, but Bell Atoms battled back to tie the game in the final period. Crunchers' Jason Keller scored his first goal of the season on a pass from Scott Inson and Willy Par- tridge just 1:55 into the second per- iod. Geoff Hann added to Crunchers lead with a goal at 5:30. Garrett Colter drew the lone assist on thc Pl iy- Bells came to life in the third, sparked by an unassisted goal by Brent Urlin. Ben Guenther potted thc tying goal soon after when he connected with Steve Cook. Crunchers alternate goalie Matt Sims turned in a fine performance. Michael Schwindt, Colter, Mike Burton and Rob Wagner were effec- tive in halting the Bells offence while Crunchers Andrew Hern, In - son, Partridge, Jason Keller and Hann passed well throughout the game. Exeter Shuffleboard Wilma Davis captured high score in four games of mixed shuffle- board action Wednesday when she turned in a 337 to edge out Ray Cottle who managed a 314. In third place was Marjorie Hodgert with 306. 'Albert Hummel scored 192 to wrap up first place in three games ' of mixed shuffleboard. Mildred Thomson and Verda Lightfoot fol- lowed with 188 and 180 respective- ly. Thursday, Charles Tindall notched 441 to claim high score in six games. Olive Tindall came sec- ond with 374 while Bruce Watson took third position with 180. In five games, Gordon Hoggarth led with 429. Walter Davis trailed Hoggarth with 373 and Joe Gosar closed out the scoring with 369. Pear) McKnight led the pack in four games Thursday with a score of 338. Mabel McKnight was close behind with 319 while Mcine Eizenga placed third with 315. Bombers rebound for tie The Lambton-Middlesex league saw some heavy action Saturday when Exeter Optimist Bombers faced off against Strathroy C's in Exeter and fought to a 2-2 tic. The game was cut short with 1:30 left to play, leaving both teams frustrat- ed. Lawrence Cole gave Exeter the lead when he scored with 3:07 re- maining in the first period. David Marshall drew the lone assist on the play. Strathroy tied the game in the second when Robert Pereira scored unassisted and then Scott Mac- Charles'gave the visiting team a 2- 1 lead with a goal. With 3:03 left to play, Geoff Mauer connected with Mark Par- sons and John Moore to score the tying goal.
