Mt. Carmel CWL meets
The February 2 meeting of Our
Lady of Mt. Carmel C.W.L. was
held in the meeting room with 24
members present. The theme for the
evening was "Better Self -Awareness
and Self-worth". I. -McCann gave a
reading from a book by Rita Snow-
den, "More Prayers for Women",
that tied in with -our theme.
Another craft and friendship time
will he held on Thursday, February
11, from 1:30 til 3:30 in the meet-
ing room. We will discuss the quilt
that Liz Conlin and Dorothy Die-
trich are preparing and we also need
help to work on a cookbook
planned for the future. A11 ladies
welcome.
A day of recollection is to be held
on Saturday, February 27, 1988 at
our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church
from 9:30 a.m. til about 2 p.m.
Bring your own lunch. Coffee will
be provided.
On Friday, March 4, 1988, Our
Lady of Mt. Carmel is hosting a
World Day thf Prayer, starting at 2
p.m. until approximately 4 p.m.
All are welcome to attend.
The meeting continued with the
Mt. Carmel C.W.L. policy manual
being presented for approval by
•Theresa Larkin. Next meeting is
March 1, 1988.
Couple from Kippen
Celebrates 50 years

The Kippen community wishes to
congratulate Emerson and Doreen
Anderson on the occasion of their
50th wedding anniversary, which
they celebrated January 8, 1988. A
social evening and dance was held in
their honour •in Mission, Texas,
with rclativcs and friends attending
from Hensall, Hamilton and Sarnia,
along with their "Winter Texan"
friends.
Emerson .and Doreen would like
to thank relatives, neighbours and
friends for the many gifts and cards
they received on this happy occa-
'"^sion.

February 17 at 8 p.m. in Hensall
Presbyterian Church. Special guest
speaker will he Yvonne Reynolds
from the Times Advocate.

Authority gets
grant for jobs
Murray Cardiff, M.P. for Huron -
Bruce on February 3 announced
funding approval under Section 38
of the Canadian Job Strategy Pro-
gram for Maitland Valley Conser-
vation Authority in the amount of
S20,340.
This funding will cover five jobs
over a 60 week period. 1t is to en-
hance wildlife and fisheries habitat
in the Hullct Provincial Wildlife
Arca.
"The Ilullct Wildlife arca is a
popular arca for visitors and this
project will benefit the surrounding
communities as well" Murray Car-
diff stated.

At St. Thomas Anglican Church,
Rev. Beverley Wheeler was the cele-
brant for the Holy Eucharist service
assisted by Kaylecn Robson. Mar-
lene French supplied the music.
In the children's focus the mini-
ster described to the children the
meaning of the word "spectators"
who were people who were always
looking on, while Jesus was always
involved with other people.
The two lessons were read by
Scott Hodgins.
It being the fifth Sunday after Ep-
iphany, Rev. Wheeler preached her
sermon from Mark I when Jesus
preached in Galilee healing the sick,
renewing their strength Jesus wept
with those who wept and rejoiced in
remembering the many people.he
had healed and helped those in dis-
tress. Are we following the foot-
steps of Jesus?
Mrs. Roy Moore prepared the cof-
fee and light lunch after the service.
The ACW meeting was held
Thursday at the home of Jean Noon.
President Irene Roloson opened the
meeting with a poem "A Blessing
We All May Share" followed by
prayer. The meditation from the An-
glican magazine was given by Olive
Hodgins. Irene gave a reading "Time
and Effort".
An old world creed was read by
Jean Noon. In the business, plans
were made to have "The Albanarres"
from St.Albons Church, London, to
sing at St. Thomas Church in the
Granton
near future.
Arrangements are being made for
the swimming event at Bob Hay-
ward Y in London.
Plans were also made for a parish
dinner to held at St. Pauls Anglican
Church in Kirkton on Tuesday
evening February 23 to entertain in
honor of our new Suffragan Bishop,
Robert Townshend.
After making valentines around
the table, lunch was served by the
hostess.
At Granton United Church, Rev.
Bruce Pierce was in charge of morn-
ing worship and entitled his com-
munion message "A Meal to Re-
member". Communion hymn "0
God Unseen, Yet Ever Near" was
sung.
The children's hymn was "The
Wise May Bring Their Learning"
and the scripture lesson was from
first Corinthians chapter 10.
UCW news
Unit I met at the manse on Thurs-
day afternoon. Doreen McRobert
presided and opened the meeting
with prayer. Following the busi-
ness, the program consisted of
watching a video presentation
shown by Rev. Pierce after which
the members discussed the picture.
Amelia Jameson and Jackie Pierce
served lunch and a social hour was
enjoyed.
Unit IV
Mrs. Gerald Dann was hostess for
Unit IV. Marilyn Humphrey presid-
ed and opened with a bible reading

meeting closed with prayer and
