FOR A JOB WELL DONE -- Former Rec Board chairman Jim Workman -
was presented with an award by Mayor Bruce Shaw -Thursday night fol his
contributions to Recreation as a board member.
Rec Board adopts new format
At the first regular meeting of the
South Huron Rec Board, Mayor
Bruce Shaw, who has decided to
take a more active role in the busi-
ness of the body this year, suggest-
ed a change in format concerning
monthly reports from the Rec direc-
tor and facilities manager.,
Noting that facilities committee
members often come to meetings
without an understanding of current
facilities issucs, Shaw suggested
that the two reports be made on the
committee level rather than at the
regular monthly meetings.
"1 see facilities people asking the
facilities manager questions," said
Shaw, adding that committee mem-
bers should know what is going on
before thejegular meeting.
y esenting the respective re-
ports ahead of time, Shaw main-
tains that at least four members of
the board will have an understanding
of the issues at the regular monthly
meeting.
In answer to the problem of poor
attendance at the committee level,
Shaw also suggested that a regular
monthly meeting be established for
cach committee.•
In the past, beard members have
tried to fit committee meetings
around busy personal schedules,
causing confusion.
As a result of Shaw's suggestion,
the board passed a motion establish-
ing committee meetings in the
fourth• week of each month and reg-
ular board meetings in the second
week of each month.
Specific meeting days for each
committee were established after the
Thuday meeting.
A motion was carried by the board
to approach council recommending
a no -smoking bylaw for the arena
portion of the Rec Centre. There
were no -smoking signs on the doors
of the arena at one time,•but no by-
law existed to back them up.

The ABCA has agreed to with-

the ABCA considered the assessed

ject to be incorrect.
