The purchase of vene- tian blinds for_the office windows to eliminate cold air drafts has been ap- proved at S960. Councillor Irene Davis also pre- sented a S1,197 estimate to replace the carpeting in the council cham- bers. Councillor Cecil Pepper ques- tioned the need for a $300 undcrpad. "We have a bonus of S10,000 and I. think this is the time to put it to use," replied Davis. Pepper - noted a change in the concession 'booth sales. "I see the popcorn is reallypeter- ing out," said Pepper. A delegation to discuss Nelson Street parking problems appeared before the first regular meeting of Hensall council. Some months ago, in. response to a property owner involved in a car accident, council decided to en - force an existing bylaw by posting , the west side of Nelson Street from Queen Street to King Street with no parking signs.' A delegation' from the Presbyterian church ap- peared last monthto protest the lack of parking in front of their church. -. Harry Klungcl, Dick Packham and Larry Uyl,. who live in the arca, explained to council that they feel the problem arises from nurs- ing home staff and visitors and apartment building residents who park along the street. "Every time I try to go to work, there's cars parked there," said Packham. Reeve Jim Robinson told the delegation banning, parking alto- gether as not the answer to the probleni, especially since other property owners arc allowed on - street parking. "I think we have to put as much parking in the village as possible," suggested Robinson. Klungel pointed to the nursing home's failure to purchase land for parking as promised when the ex- tension was built as the cause of f much ofthe problem: "I feel he (the nursing home owner) bas a moral obligation to provide his own parking for his staff and visitors," said Klungel, who wished to see street parking arrangements left as theyare for the public and area institutions en- couraged to find their own parking. "The problem, Harry, is there's not enough places to park. It's as easy as that," said Packham. Robinson assured the delegation that, while the problem could not be resolved that night, a decision from the parking committee will be soon in coming. "I am, optimistic a recommenda- tion may be made by the next reg- ular council meeting," said Robin- son.
