Queensway rings in new year Hello! Welcome to Queensway news. [ hope everyone has had as -nice a holiday as we have had here at Queensway. I'll catch you up on our highlights of the last two weeks. Christmas Week residents enjoyed the singing of the Lakeview Conservative Youth on Sunday the 20th. Monday evening George Matho nia and friends were in with the Hensall Legion for an evening of music and refreshments provided by the Legion. Tuesday Earl and Dorreen Ocsch led- our worship service with Phil- lippa Steckle as pianist. . Thursday residents viewed the mo- vie "White Christmas" starring Bing Crosby. Our resident Christ- mas Party was held Thursday even- ing with a visit from Santa bearing gifts for everyone. We sang Christ- mas carols with Bill Gibson as pia- nist. We ended our evening with a reading of the Christmas Story and then sang Silent Night in candle- light. It was a very special Christ- mas Eve for all of us. Rev. Sinasac delivered thc sermon for residents Tuesday the 28th. An • interesting thought provoking mes- sage. PhiUippa Steckle was again our faithful pianist. The highlight of the week for all residents was our Thursday after- noon New Years Eve party. We gathered at tables in the Activity Room to listen to Guy Lombardo music and nibble on a variety of fruit breads, cheese and grapes: Eve- ryone enjoyed our punch. For our count down at 3 o'clock, residents } crowded into the lobby of our Nel- son street entrance and released nu`- mcrous helium filled balloons into the frosty December sky. Residents are looking forward to a low key week for the beginning of January to recover from our busy December schedule just as arc many of you. Birthday greetings to Bill McKen- zie who celebrated his birthday in December. We would like to extend our sym- pathy to the families of Chris Steele -and Ethel Alexander who passed away this month. - At this time we would like to say thank you to all our faithful volun- teers and our dedicated ladies auxil- iary who together make each day one to look forward to at Quccns- way. Proud and happy parents of their first child are Mark and Sandra Consitt of Hensall. SERVICE AWARDS - General Coach honoured several employees with service awards before Christmas. President Andrew 'manse (back Left) stands with -10 -year employees Alfred Chappel; Ron Bierling, Larry Moir, GaryRau and production manager Prakash Malik. Twenty-year employees in the middle row are Rene Boogemans (lef, Sarkis Koyounian, Tom Jorgensen, and Leroy Hoffman. Frank Varley in front received a 30 -year service award. John Mustard, who retired, is absent. General Coach employees rewarded General Coach on December 23 honoured several employees .for 10, 20, and 30 years of service. Frank Varley's 30 years of scrvicc were recognized and John Mustard retired after 22 years of service. All of the employees received gifts and/or cash from the company in recognition of their many years of service. John Mustard also was given a gift of a lazy boy reeling from the employees. During the ceremony, General Coach president, Andrew (manse -credited these long-term employees with much of the success of the business. The plant stopped production be- tween December 24 and January 4 for the holiday season. Every em- ployee received a turkey and four Fletcher receives award On December 9, Syd Fletcher, principal of Wyoming Public School received the MarshaljjNci.u- han Distinguished Teacher'Award for innovative use of technology in education. Thoeward is named after Marshal McLuhan, the late theorist of mass communication. Fletcher is a former principal of Grand Bend Public School. The computer has been used at Wyoming to monitor severely dis- abled by way of a special program called Biofeedback Microlab which 1 measures subtle cnanges rn muscle tension, heart rate, skin temperature orally to show that they are re- sponding to external Stimuli. Fletcher was one of 15 Mcl.uhan award winners from across Ontario who received a S2500 cash prize plus a 51000 donation for their school at a special ceremony in To- ronto at the Ontario Science Centre. ,Among the dignitaries who present- ed the awards were Premier David Peterson., June Callwood, and the Minister of. Prayer was held for the Cudmore family in the passing of Edgar Cud - more. Mr. Cudmore was active in South Huron Y.F.C. since its be - $inning in 1949. His keen interest in young people was shown by his dedication as Quiz Coach of the Ex- eter Quiz team for many years. His faithfulness will long be remem- ' bored by all of those whose lives he touched. Mary and Don Gravett of Hanover and Mark Gravett of Toronto spent Christmas with parents Glen and Pearl McKnight. United Church Hensall United Church held a lovely Christmas Eve Communion Service. The Christmas candles were lit followed by prayer and the call to worship by Rcv. Doug Wright. Rob Gackstetcer performed a beau- tiful solo and the Senior Choir sang a touching "Christmas Lullaby". - A regular Sunday worship scrvicc was conducted on December 27 with Reverend Doug Wright presiding. The choir performed "Brightest and Best to the Sons of the Morning" with Mrs. Bclva Fuss on the organ. Dorothy Corbett met worshippers at the door. Ushers were Mervyn Fields, Steve Corbett, Peter Pryde and Ken Elder. On Sunday, January 3, wor- shippers were greeted at the door by Pat Cook and shown to their scats by Joanne Fields, Phyllis Parsons, Janis Butson and Jane Consitt. - Rev. Douglas Wright led the large congregation through prayer and Call to Worship. He told the chil- dren about the wise men who fol- lowed the star to find the infant Je- sus.
