Briefs from
Rec Centre
A preliminary time -table has been
set up for ice -time at the South Hu-
ron Rec Centre in the month of
April.
Rec Board members were present-
ed with a calendar which maps out a
tentative schedule devised to facili-
tate Exeter Mohawks, Exeter Junior
Hawks and the Optimist Home and
Garden show. -
The ice plant will be turned off
April 1, but hockey teams will be
able to use the ice surface until
April 3. The ice will be completely
gone by April 6 and the Home and
Garden show will run from April 7-
10 when the ice plant will be turned
on again.
Five days later the teams involved
will be able to use the facility.
The groups involved came up
with the planthrough a series of
meetings with the board and the
newly formed Winter Sports Coun-
cil. In recent years, Exeter teams
have lost the advantage of home ice
during playoff series because thu ice
was removed by April 1 -- in time
for the Home and Garden show.
The Optimists' show has been a
popular event in the past, raising
roughly $16,000 each year. That
money is in turn, injected into Ex-
eter and area minor sports. The key
to the show's success is the fact that
it is the first show of the season in
the arca.

It was decided that Cam Steward -
son, South Huron facilities manag-
er, should approach a company
called 'Enershare', an energy service
company which evaluates buildings
for their energy-saving potential.
A company representative will do
a walk-through inspection of the
Rec Centre and then will indicate
whether they can implement any
cost-saving measures.
Should the company find suffi-
cient reason, they will guarantee a
certain amount of savings for the
Rec Centre, then make the changes
at their own cost. Enershare receives
in payment any savings that are
made in•a given number of years.
After that time, the Rec Centre ben-
efits entirely from the energy-saving
.changes.
Stewardson commented that,
whether the board decides to enter
into a contract or not, they stand
only to gain by the evaluation.
The south Huron Rec Board was
informcd during their monthly
meeting (Dqc. 10) that $4,500 has
been set aside in reserve for the re-
placement of wom doors and weath-
er stripping "in the event the project
cannot be completed by year end".
The money will come from the En-
ergy Conservation item in the Bud-
get.

fewer students answering phones. As
well Brown said schools will have
greater security with a full-time em-

One day some children went to
school. At recess they made an
enormous snowball. Then they
made a gigantic snowball. Then
they made a big big big snowball.
They needed a lot of help to put
them on top of each other. Then
they got a ladder because they had
to put the eyes, nose, and mouth
on. Then they ask the teacher for a
broom, hat, and scarf. Then the bell
rang and they went inside. When
they came out again the snowman
took off his hat and said hello. But
the wind picked up the hat and took
off with it. Now that hat was a
magic hat and that made frosty talk.
So when the wind took the hat
away he couldn't move or talk. So
the children ran and got the hat and
put it back on Frosty's head.
Then he told the boys and girls
that the hat belonged to an old ma-
gician they asked how it got here.
he began "Once there was a magi-
cian and he was jolly. But one -day
the wind took his hat and he's been
looking for it ever since he last saw
it. And the wind must have taken

Santa's Trip

One Christmas -night Santa Claus
went on a trip to Dallas. He was
tired so he landed in Quebec. He
stayed in a ho -ho -hotel in Quebec.
Then in the morning he took off to
Chicago. he bought Chicago 16-17-
18 tapes. Then he went to the Chi-
cago ho -ho -hotel! He went to Kan-
sas City. In the morning he took off
to Dallas. He got there, but his rein-
deer were sick. Ile found his medi-
cine. He gave them it. They got
back to the North Pole!
School in Stratford was set at Janu-
ary 7, Jack Lane, Superintendent of
business and finance, said the time
may have to be extended because of
the Christmas holiday not giving
firms enough time.
The Stratford Recreation Depart-
ment will again enter into an agree-
ment with the school board for'ie
use of three athletic facilities -- the
ball diamonds at St. Ambrose
School,
St. Joseph School and St. Aloy-
sius School, as well as the soccer
field at St. Aloysius. The board has
loaned these playing fields for many
years to the city.
A trustee will be added to the Cur-
riculum Review, Development and
Implementation committee. The
committee members include Super-
intendent of Education, John
McCauley; Principal of Precious
Blood School of Exeter, Margaret
Medve; Principal Michael Dewan;
and Teacher Terry Craig of Seaforth.
The trustee is John Devlin of Strat-
ford.
Three vice -principals were ap-
pointed: Mary Smith at St. Mary's
School Goderich; George Van Slyck
at St. Ambrose School, Stratford
and Justin Tomasulo at St. Aloysius
School, Stratford, all effective on
September 1, 1988.

and before their eyes stood a magi-
cian. He grabbed the hat and began
to run all the way to the North
Pole.
Then they asked Santa for a ride
on the sleigh. They caught up with
the magician and jumped on, him
and buried him in the snow and he
couldn't get out. They got the hat
and went back to school and put the
hat on Frosty's head.
The end.
The board will not take any ac-
tion to protest the possibility that
the Ministry of Education plans to
reduce the number of trustees from
14 to 12, but will wait for more in-
formation in the New Year.
Jack Lane advised that the board
wait until he receives information
from the task force to give him
time to analyse how the board will
be affected. He questioned whether
the urban areas may lose trustees
rather than the rural.
We wish you a
