McCurdy concert worth the wait
The Christmas concert at McCur-
dy public school was a day lat, but
worth the wait. This year it vas put
on by the primary grades, 'o what
was lost in technique was nure than
made up for in appeal. Tie theme
this year seemed to be the Christ-
mas tree.
The kindergarten class of Mrs.
Judy Mills and Mrs. Besinthal pre-
sented "Decorating the Christmas
tree" as each little cheru) said his or
her part and hung an onament on a
cardboard tree worn b' a wee girl.
(The tree wouldn't lige at the end,
but that only added tothe charm.)
The Nursery schod children put
their ornaments or a tiny tree
(which DID light', sang Jingle
Bells and wished everyone a Merry

Huron County Playhouse Artis-
tic Director Sardy Macdonald paid a
visit to the Grade 10 and 11/12Dra-
matic Arts stidents at Clinton Hu-
ron Secondary School ,on November

Instructor of the Dramatic Arts
class Mr. St:phen Oliver observed
closely whte Mr. Macdonald fo-
cussed on two main factors that
make drama work: believability and
moments of truth, and how to
achieve loth of these crucial ele-
ments in theatre. Students in •both
classes responded favourably to Mr.
Macdonad's instruction.
Mr. Macdonald has been working
closely with Huron County
schools He is currently in negotia-
tions with arca high schools with a
view to helping to produce their
productions in the late spring, and
speak; very highly of the schools'
Theare Arts programs in the Coun-
ty.
If time permits, Mr. Macdonald
hopes to work with area elementary
schools and also build in the Play-
house's Workshop program which
is presently under consideration for
the summer of 1988.
The Workshop would be for
young people aged six to 15 and
would be designed to enrich children
in the arts as well as give them
some added summer fun in a struc-
tured learning context. The cost for
this unique Children's Theatre
Workshop would be $100 and the
Playhouse will pursue plans for this
project only if there is a favourable
response from the general public.
For anyone interested in this ex-
citing project, please contact Vicki
Mann at the Playhouse, 238-8387.

Christmas.
The Grade 1 class of Mrs. Allison
presented "Mother Goose's Christ-
mas". Each child dressed as a Nur-
sery Rhyme character, to bring a
gift to brighten poor old, lonely
Mother Goose's Christmas. Lastly,
a tiny Santa appeared, to wish eve-
ryone a Merry Christmas.
Grade 2 presented "The Bell that
Wouldn't Ring" - it went "clunk"
instead, until the other bells fixed
it. Grade 3 wrote their own play,
"The Christmas Party", as they dec-
orated a large tree, sang "I'd Like to
Teach the World to Sing", and were
visited by Santa and his wife,
Scrooge, and three elves who gave
everyone gifts.
Then the entire group assembled
for a choir singing "Listen to the
Story", "0 Christmas Tree" and
"The ..Only Thing I Want For
Christmas", (to keep the things that
I've got!) It was a lovely concert,
and principal Pat Solden thanked all
the teachers and parents. who
worked together with the students to
produce such heartwarming results.
On behalf of the parents, especial-
ly the parents of the many "special"
handicapped children who attend
McCurdy, we would like to thank
'he principal, Pat Soldan, the teach-
ers, teacher aides, therapists, and
support workers who work so hard,
so patiently and with such tendec.'
loving care with our children. They
could never achieve what they have
now without you. McCurdy is a
shining example of community
spirit and cooperation within the
School system. Have a merry
Christmas and a happy New Year.
