Paper drive
Don't forget the regular paper drive
collection that is held once a• month
(every last Thursday) October 29 by
the Mennonite Boys Club and begins
at 6:30 p.m. Help them by having your
bundles out at the curb ready and it's
also a good idea to get them recycled
instead of putting them in the
garbage.
Lutheran Church
Members of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church began their service on Sunday
at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Alles as
their pastor.
At 3:30 p.rn. several enjoyed hear-
„ ing a special speaker, Dr. Don
Neville, "Worship from the reforma-
tion to the present," followed by din-
nera t 6:15 in the church basement.
Then at 7 p.m. a reformation wor-
ship service was held with guest
preacher Osker Ornell.
Mennonite Church
Last Sunday evening Jfan Bennett
showed some interesting slides of her
experiences while in Nicaragua, to
the members of the Mennonite
Church. Also. the M.Y.F. group
recently made a retreat weekend at
Lampton. •
United Church
The ladies of the United Church
.were busy attending.- meetings of
various churches as they were invited
to the U.C.W. in Crediton on October
1, to the Zurich Mennonite Church.on
October 20 and to Bayfield on October
14 at St. Andrew's.
Some also attended the fall regional
at the Grand Bend United Church on
September 29.
Trip of the month
Congratulations to Jody Durand
Who was the trip of the month draw
winner October 20 at the Chamber
meeting held ai the Dominion Tavern.
He won a trip to Mexico. -
Bean Sprouts
There will also be a bake and
bazaar sale at the Hay Township hall
on Saturday November 14 from t :00
- 4:30 sponsored by the Bean Sprout
Nursery School.

Christmas items and crafts from 10-5
p.m. as the upstairs has been turned
into a gift shop.
Come out and look around as there
will -be lots of goodies, samples of
smoked fish pate and free draws.
Kudos
Throughout the summer months in
fact since last April Doug Erb has
been treating some senior citizens
(about 10 at a time) to day trips once
a month in his van. Some of the in-
teresting places they went to were
Stratford, London, Storybook
Gardens, Masonville•Mall, Kitchener
Market and in September they went
to the African Lion Safari in Rockton.
It's nice of Doug to take time out of
his busy schedule to do this and I'm
sure they all appreciate it very much!

' Thirteen ladies from St. Boniface
C.W..L. and two from St. Peter's
parish attended the annual Deanery
meeting in Logan at St. Brigit's
parish on October 14.
Keeping fit
There are. several activities going
on in town to help everyone keep fit.
Some go bowling etc. while others like
to play either baseball or hockey.
Right now three different groups of
children.are taking gymnastics under
the direction of Jody Hay, every
Thursday night at the Zurich Public
School.
On Monday and Wednesday even-
- ings there is a Ladies Low Impact
fitness program taking place at the
arena till December 9 with instructor
Deb Oke.
It's also nice to see different people
go for walks or bike rides after sup-
per (when the weather is good that is)
which is a great way to get both fresh
air and exercise:

The family of Joe and Mary Mar-
tin held a surprise birthday party for
their mother's ( Mpry ) 75th birthday,
at the home of their daughter Anne
and Larry McBride on Sunday.
Several teenagers from the area en-
joyed making a cor weekend in Strat-
ford from Friday to Sunday at SL
• Michael School.
They had a very inspiring and
rewarding weekend and they made a
lot of new friends.
Miss Lynn -Marie Hartman of
Guelph spent a few days last week
with her grandmothers, Mrs. Juliette
Denomme and Mrs. Theresa Hart:

No ifs, and, or buts, the frost was
on the pumpkin early last evening and
this morning, which will probably be
the end of most people's flowers and
plants. Perhaps you noticed our two
greeters in the lobby of the Home. If
not, bring your children on
Hallowe'en. The residents will enjoy
their -costumes and have a treat for
them.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Gingerich, Craft
Supervisor and her assistant. Mrs.
Gladys Martin, hosted the Region No.
3 Craft Workshop on Thursday. This
region covers the area from Oakville,
Mississauga, Cambridge, Kitchener.
Waterloo, Huron and Perth Counties.
Registration began at 9:00 a.m. and
the sessions lasted throughout the
day.
Craft ideas were exchanged as well
as craft items made in other Homes.
Donna Thiel demonstrated the
assembling of a puff comforter and
Barb Passmore of Barb's Crafts, Ex-
eter, demonstrated with hats, bows
and hoops.
I am sure everyone involved found
it to be an interesting and informative
workshop. We extend a thank -you to
the volunteers from the Ladies Aux-
iliary who assisted with serving the
noon meal and assisting in the
kitchen.
Bingo was played in the auditorium
on Friday afternoon.
The Sunday evening chapel service
wsa conducted:by Pastor Larry Sto-
jkovic of Dashwood Lutheran church.
Everyone is reminded of the fall:
bazaar, bake sale, penny sale table,
and tea room plus a chance to win a
decorated cake or crib quilt. So come
out from 2-4 to the Blue Water Rest
Home on November 7.
While there you can see their new
auditorium and redecorated front lob-
by. The ladies auxiliary will sponsor
this annual event.

Mrs. Michael Hartman of
Mississauga. i She has recently
returned from Australia and New
Zealand where she spent a year
travelling and working and is now
back to her job at the Treatment Cen-
tre in Guelph.
On Friday Carmel Sweeney en-
joyed a family reunion in Windsor
with her mother, Mrs. Jean Bedard
and sisters, Shirley Flood and Mary
Sway of Windsor along with Carol
Butler of Sarnia and Theresa
Strickland from Sydney, Nova Scotia.

'Denomme helped them to celebrate
their 46th wedding anniversary last
Friday night with dinner at
Hessenland followed by a get together
at the home of their son, Larry and
Debbie Denomme. After a few games
of cards and socializing eveyone en-
joyed anniversary • cake and
refreshments.
Congratulations to Ken and Wilma
Ellis (nee Jacobs) who were married
at St. Boniface Church on Saturday
October 24. The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Jacobs, RR L
Zurich.
Jerry and Rita Hartman and two
girls of Loudon recently visited with:
his mother, Mrs. Theresa Hartman
for the day.

Boniface Church from November 8-10

assistance of Father Ted Colleton

Jerome Sweeney ecently enjoyed
spending a week Syracuse, New
York going by bus, where he visited
with a friend, Bob Hanlon and visited
several shrines and went to various
places even a zoo.
. A nice surprise birthday party was
held for Gert Durand on Saturday Oc-
tober 17 at St. Peter's parish hall with
about 50 of her friends and relatives
attending. All enjoyed a delicious sup-
per and party afterwards. Gert and
Maurice live at the Maple Woods
Apartments in Zurich.
There have been several $5 winners
through the "Find -a -Line" game at
the Tender Spot store in Zurich and
Golden Agers

Zurich Golden Agers, including six
musicians, entertained and served
lunch to the residents at Huron View
Clinton for their October birthday
party. -
• Toe tapping old time music was en-
joyed by all, including a sing song
with Myraline Desjardine playing her
piano accordion, Jean Crocker on
piano, Mozart Gelinas Sr. with guitar
and Max Ducharme with violin. Har-
riet Vanderburgt and Diane Miller
treated everyone to beautiful solos
and duets.

Several attended the Penny Sale at
St Peter's parish on Sunday evening
which was enjoyed by all -. with lots
of winners.

The fifth Varna 4-11 meeting was
held on October 19 at the home of Kate
Keys. President Julie Healy called
the meeting to order and the 4-1-1
pledge was repeated. We travelled to
Ducharme's orchard for a visit to see
the different types of apples and how
they are grown, picked, sorted and
packed.
There was some discusson on a 4-H
party to be held on Monday
November 2 at the Goshen Church at
6 p.m. Everyone was to bring food
and decorations were to be handled
by Jan Talbot and Cheryl Turner.
Entertainment was managed by San-
dra Coutlis, Trish McAsh and Angie
Faber.
Anniversary service
Goshen anniversary service was
held in GoAhen Church on Sunday Oc-
tober 25 with the church filled to
capacity.
Rev. Sam Parker opened the ser-
vice with the Call to worship and
prayer. Sepcial music was. by soloist

Hallowe'en on track
The children at both of the school in
town will be busy. getting .their
costumes ready for Halloween parties
this week.
The older grades are even having
a dance in the afternoon.
S.H.D.H.S. in Exeter is holding
theirs on Thursday evening. There
will be a lot of spooky characters out
that night.
Also be ready for the children when
they come trick or treating on Satur-
day October 31 as soon as it gets dark.

Fun by both young and old was had
at the farm home. of Timmy Klopp
and his. parents. Heather and Paul on
Saturday afternoon October 24 when
a Halloween party was enjoyed by
T.J. and several of his friends:
cousins, aunts, grandparents and
some moms or dads of the kids. The
little ones had cute costumes on.
