Panthers walked over Norwell, thumping them 45-0. Quarterback Jerry Lamport put on a show for Norwell
scoring on a two year quarterback sneak and throwing a two point conversion as well as completing
a number of passes over the course of the game. Senior Panthers continue to hold first place in their
league with just two regular season games remaining.

Panthers humiliate Norwell
South Huron Senior Panthers foot-
ball team took a romp in the park
Thursday afternoon at the expense of
Norwell. Panthers shut the visiting
team out, and in the process, ac-
cumulated 45 points.
Rob Wonnacott scored two touch
downs in the effort, four converts as
• well as a 75 yard punt return.
Jon O'Connor turned in a good ef-
fort, kicking four converts as well a*
a 30 yard field goal.
Trevor Itatz got a touch down on a
45 yard reverse play while Jeff Den-
notter caught a 12 yard pass from
Jerry Lamport 'to score.
Lamport himself crossed Norwell's
goal line to score on a two yard
quarterback sneak. He then threw.to
Vern Iskauskas for a two point
conversion.
Scott Heywood scored on a four
yard run.
The final score was 45-0

Panthers remain in first place in
their division with just two games re-
maining in their schedule.
South Huron Panthers downed
Norwell Thursday 21-6 in Junior
highschool action.
Dave O'Connor had two
touchdowns and kicked three con-
verts. Andrew Thompson had one
touchdown and rushed for 112 yards.
O'Connor also rushed for 105 yards.
Craig Soldan made three catches
for 45 yards and Harlen Tinney com-
pleted five of eight passes.
Dave Dalrymple led the defense.
Dave Cox. coach of the junior team
said the team took control from the
beginning of the game. By half-time
Panthers led21-0. Cox noted that the
Panthers might have accumulated
more , points if they had avoided
foolish penalties.

Junior Panthers are now tied for
first with Vikings and Norwell who
were undefeated until Thursday's
game.
Panthers now have a recordof two
wins and one loss.
A tie stand in the rest of the league.
Listowel. Clinton and Stratford -
Northwestern have a record of one
and two, an indication that the league
is well-balanced.

Basketball
Last Wednesday, the girls basket -
hall teams played in Mitchell. In the
Midgets game Mitchell heat South
Huron, 36-19.
Top scorer of thegame was Amy
Ridley with eight points. Also scoring
were Carrie Oke with six and Jenny
Taylor with four.
Midgets also played St. Marys.
South Huron was the big winner,
beating the opposition 43-36.
Top scorers again wer Amy Ridley
with 15 and Carrie Oke with 10.
Also scoring were Jenny Taylor,
Amy Campbell. Sheryl Oke, Paula
tlohner and Shauna Becker.
Mitchell defeated the SHUNS junior
team 36-18.

Exeter Hawks send Belmont, Wellesley packing on weekend
Exeter Hawks laid down some stur-
dy ground rules at the South Huron
rec centre on the weekend, sending a
message out to the rest of the Western
Junior D league with a 9-1 win over
Belmont Friday night and an 8-0 rout
against Wellesley.
Exeter set the tone for the weekend
Friday night when they trounced Bel-
mont 9-1 in a chippy bout, coming
close to the shutout they would
tnanage Sunday.
Dave Rook started in net for Hawks
and maintained a shutout until he was
replaced by Derrick Martin at 9:11 of
the third period, but together, the two
goalies faced only 23 shots over the
course of the game.
Hawks dominated the game, pep-
pering Belmont goalie Jamie Osborne
with 37 shots. By the end of the first,
Exeter had pushed their way into a
commanding 4-0 lead. They added one
goal in the second and four more in
the third.
Clark Singer, who pumped in two
goals and picked up two assists in the
game, started things off near the half-
way mark of the first when he con-
nected with Scott Bogart and Brent
Nairn to score.
Jason Leslie scored his first of two
goals at 12:41 during a power play.
cementing Exeter in an early lead.
Assists on the play went to Terry
Casey and Jeff Dalrymple.
Jon O'Connor added to the score
less than two minutes later on a play
created by Singer and Bogart.
Brent Murray made it 4-0 with 18
seconds remaining in the first. O'Con-
nor drew the lone assist on the play.
After a period of clean hockey in
which officials called only eight
minutes in penalties, the second
period provided stark contrast. Leslie
scored the only goal of the second dur-
ing a power play when he beat
Lucan Irish
are winless
Lucan Irish remain winless in the
Western Junior D league after a Sun-
day afternoon loss to Brussels who
handed the visiting Irish a 6-3 defeat.
Irish now have two ties and a loss
in regular season action.
Lucan jumped into a 1-0 lead before
the first minute of play had expired
in the game when Tim Hayter scored.
Assists on the play went to Paul
Barnes and Ian Craig. -
Brussels tied the game on a power
play goal by Kevin Lee with 11:19 re-
maining in the first and then added
two more on goals by Greg Crummer
and Ron Strome.
Lucan countered with a power play
goal by Jamie Greig assisted by Scott
Denomy and Brad Muir with 8:04 re-
maining in the first, keeping Irish in
the game.
A power play goal by Barnes just
three minutes into the second tied the
game 3-3. Assists on the play went to
Joe Febrey and Denomy.
Brussels matched that goal Tess
than two minutes later when Paul
Robinson beat goallender Paul
Woolford to regain the lead.
Power play goals by Bob McMillan
and Chet Hymers sealed Lucan's fate.
Woolford made 25 saves in the ef-
fort while his counter -part at the other
end of the ice, Jeff McGavin, made 23
saves.

Then the two teams gave priority to
slugging it out. Referee Dave Whaley
called 160 minutes in penalties in the
second, giving his linesmen a workout
that will no doubt stick in their minds
for the rest of the season.
Early in the third George Pratt
scored his first of the period from
Singer and Tom McCann, giving Ex-
eter a 6-0 advantage.
After 4:14 of play, Singer scored his
second goal of the night unassisted,
while his team was short handed.
Jim Lewis added an eighth goal
from Murray and Bryan Quinn at 6:36
and then Pratt finished the scoring for
Hawks when he picked up a pass from
Steve Gould and' McCann less than
one minute later.
Belmont managed to score their on-
ly goal at 13:23 of the third when cap-
tain John Evert beat Martin during
a power play.
Hawks 8 - Wellesley 0
Despite being out -shot 30-21 Sunday
night, Hawks trounced Wellesley 8-0,
picking up their second win of the
weekend.
Martin. in goal throughout the
game. earned the shut out for Exeter.
Wellesley stayed close, trailing
Hawks :3-0 going into the third period,
but Exeter sharp shooters opened up
in the third adding five goals.
Scott Lovie led the team offensive-
ly with two goals cone of them -a short-
handed effort) and two assists. Pratt
picked up three assists in the effort.
It was Casey who put Exeter in the
lead at 8:25 of the first period when
Bogart put the puck on his stick in
Wellesley's end. Bogart drew an
assist.on the second goal of the night.

Hawks carried the 2-0 lead into the
second and increased it by one when
Lovie scored from Pratt and Gould at
16:07.
Again Casey set the pace in the
third period, scoring an unassisted
short-handed goal after 1:37 of play
in the third.

into over -drive and Gould scored con -
MAKING A STATEMENT - - Exeter Hawks laid down the law on the
weekend, pulling out routs over Belmont and Wellesley. Hawks
played a physical game Friday night and took a 9-1 win over Bel-
mont. Dave Rook was in net throughout most -of Friday's game and
left the ice in the third period with a shut out in tact. Derek Martin
earned an 8.0 shut out against Wellesley Sunday night.
