Travel first class
Back Dome first
Dan McLeod of Exeter was return-
ing to Britain for the first time in 44
years, and for his wife, Marguerite,
it was her first glimpse of England
and Scotland. Naturally, they decid-
ed that the occasion merited travel by
first class.
They left New York aboard the
Queen Elizabeth the Second luxury
liner on August 16 for the five-day
voyage across the ocean. They revell-
ed in the lavish treatment afforded to
passengers and, one evening, were in-
vited to the captain's quarters for
cocktails after he learned of Mr.
McLeod's service in the Canadian
Navy during the war.
Mrs. McLeod recalls with pride that
she rubbed elbows with members of
the Rockefeller and Fleishman
families during this cocktail hour.
Upon arrival in Southampton, the
McLeods' original plan was to rent a
car and use it to tour around England
on their 'way to Scotland; however,
after a harrowing 100 -mile journey to
Exeter in Devon, Mr. McLeod decid-
ed he had had enough of English
driving.
"That was enough for me", he said,
Hit musical '

"Just Because You're Saving the
World, It Don't Mean You Have to
Have a Bad Time".
Bossin's Home Remedy for Nuclear
War, the hit Canadian musical that
has toured the country from the
Queen Charlottes to Cape Breton is
coming to Blyth Memorial Hall for
one performance only on October 15
at 8 p.m.
Bossin's Home Remedy is a
hilarious medicine show mix of
theatre music, magic and snake oil.
Written and performed by Bob
Bossin, the show is "Funny, infor-
mative and inspiring at the same
time," says PeteSeeger. "Go! You'll
come away happy," says CBC TV.
Bob Bossin is well-known across the
country as the leader of Canada's
premiere folk group, Stringband and
is widely acknowledged as one of
Canada's foremost songwriters.
In his persona as snake oil
salesman "Doctor" Bossin, Bob has
been called a marvellous per-
former...a combination of Pete
Seeger and Groucho Marx" by the
Western Canada Jewish Bulletin.
Bossin's Home Remedy for Nuclear
War is "absolutely guaranteed to pre-
vent nuclear war or your money
refunded ! "
Tickets are $8 advance, $10 at the
door, $5 students, $15 for dinner and
show, 6 p.m. The show is sponsored
by Women Today and the Huron
County Medical Society.

f
explaining they decided to return the
car in Exeter and spend five days
there before taking the train to
Scotland. --
Exeter,
Exeter, England, a city of around
25,000, boasts such attractions as its
gothic cathedral, a university, and a
maritime museum. The McLeods
were impressed with the cleanliness
of Exeter and its shopping centre
which is closed to traffic.
The McLeods are very grateful to
the manager of the Royal Clarence
Hotel, where they stayed, for the help
he gave- them in rearranging their
travel plans once they had decided
driving was out of the question.
"It took a load off our minds," in-
sisted Mrs. McLeod. "We left
everything in his hands."
Once in Glasgow, they hired a
driver and car at their hotel to travel
around to visit nearby relatives. The
advantage to this, the McLeods
observed, was that they were able to
visit small villages and attractions
they likely could never have found if
they had been doing the driving
themselves.
They visited the British Legion Hall
a number of times, where they were
surprised that the locals enjoy danc-
ing to a different orchestra every
night of the week.
"They know how to live," declares
Mr. McLeod.
An exursion by bus turned up the
unexpected experience of meeting a
gentleman who, after inquiring where
the McLeods were from, told them he
was born in Hensall.
Shakespeare plays
Two plays by William Shakespeare,
a new version of a classic Greek
tragedy and a witty comedy by
Richard Brinsley Sheridan will be
presented in 1988 by the Stratford
F'estival's Young Company. Robin
Phillips, Director of the Young Com-
pany, announced the 1988 Young
Company playbill this week.
During the Festival's Opening
Week (May 30 - June 4), the Young
Company will present William
Shakespeare's Twelfth Night plus a
double bill of Sophocles' Oedipus (in
a new adaptation by John Murrell)
and The Critic by Richard Brinsley
Sheridan, author of the Festival's 1987
hit production of The School For
Schandal. The third Young Company
production opening later in the sum-
mer will be Shakespeare's King Lear.
"These plays will prove exciting
and challenging to all of us at the
Young Company," Robin Philips said
today. "The work we were able to do
together in 1986 I found richly rewar-
ding and I eagerly look forward to
carrying it further in 1987."
All Young Company productions
will be presented at the Third Stage.
Information on casting will be made
available as soon as possible.
Groat year for
Country Playhouse
"The 1987 season and my last
season as Artistic Directory at Huron
Country Playhouse was a great year,
both at the Box Office an on stage",
says Stephen Schipper.
"Our most popular musical Briga-
doon played to sold -out houses near-
ly every night and most talked about
thriller Corpse kept the audience
guessing who really dunnit."
The Main Stage this season boasts
an 80 percent average while
Playhouse II is at 57 percent. The an-
nual general meeting is slated for
November 21 and at that time more
accurate and detailed figures will be
released as to the season's overall
performance.
Next year, 1988 marks the 17th
season of Huron Country Playhouse
and it promises to be an exciting one
with plans well underway. To date,
the Playhouse productions have been
seen by more than half a million peo-
ple: Subscriptions will soon be on sale
with more details on the highlights of
next year's exciting season.

time in 44 years
were the expensive meals and the
television.
The TV was abominable," com-
plains Mr. McLeod, but then again,
the McLeods say that they spent most
of their time meeting people and
visiting places of interest, such as
Glasgow's bontanical gardens.
There will be plenty of time for
television now that the McLeods are
back home, but they do intend to
return to England and Scotland soon
to complete their discovery of Britain.
"We hope to go back to see some
more of what we didn't see," said
Mrs. McLeod.
"It's a small world realty," said
Mr. McLeod, and went on to note the
general change in hospitality offered
them once it was known they were
Canadian..
"As soon as they found we were
Canadians and not Americans, the at-
titude changed completely," he said,
suggesting that Americans are not
nearly as well -liked in Britain.
The McLeods enjoyed their stay in
Scotland, including their chance to
have lunch with the Glasgow Rangers
soccer team, and a brief glimpse of
Margaret Thatcher. About the only
things they did not like about Britain
FIRST CLASS - Dan and Marguerite McLeod leave for England from
New York aboard the Queen Elizabeth the Second liner. They left
on August' 16 and returned by plane of September 5 from a vacation .
that took them to Exeter, England and by train to Scotland.
