as a top woodworking student. McLachlan also received the Peter

WINS BOYES SCHOLARSHIP — John Murdock, head of the Science
and Agriculture departments at North Middlesex District High school
presented the Dr. F.F. Boyes Scholarship to Brad Muir at Friday's Com-
mencement. Brad also received the Biology Award, the D.A. Lamont
award in mathematics and physics and was the valedictorian.
OUTSTANDING AT NMDHS Janet Eagleson receives the outstan-
ding student plaque from Luanne Wardell at Friday's Commencement
at North Middlesex Districh High School. She also received the J.H.

Thanksgiving services at Thames Road

Mrs. Anna Ballantyne welcomed 26
ladies to the October meeting of the
United Church Women. The theme
was Thanksgiving and also on
stewardship and finance.
A reading on our "different respon-
sibilities" and Scripture verses was
given by Anna Ballantyne, a reading
"Our Actions" and Scripture by Kay
Cunnington, a reading "Our Words"
and Scripture by Jean Hodgert, a
reading "Our Ways" and Scripture by
Anna Ballantyne, a reading "Our
Works ' and Scripture by Kay Cunn-
ington, a reading "Our Money" and
Scripture by Sharon Passmore, a
reading "Our Lord" and Scripture by
Jean Hodgert, and a closing thought
and prayer on Our Responsibilities by
Anna Ballantyne.
A very meaningful skit on Steward-
ship was presented with Anna Ballan-
tyne, Jean Hodgert, Sharon
Passmore and Kay Cunnington taking
part.
Sharon and Kay received the offer-
ing with prayer by Anna.
An interesting Thanksgiving
reading On The Past And Present was
given by Jean Hodgert, who also read
a poem "A Good Thanksgiving". An-
na closed the worship service with
prayer.
President Diane Jeffery opened the
business part of the meeting with a
poem "Fulfilment".
The roll call was answered with
what we are thankful for.
We were read an invitation from
Woodham inviting us to their meeting
at Woodham Uni'ed Church on Tues-
day October 13 at 8:15 and also from
Elimville to attend their meeting at
Elimville Church on Wednesday Oc-
tober 28 at 8 p.m.
The nominating committee will be
calling in October for a number of
new officers; we hope everyone will
say yes.
Jean Hodgert gave a treasurer's
report. Ann Bray talked about the
Christmas orders.
Group U served lunch and a time of
fellowship was enjoyed.
We are embroidering our names on
our new tablecloth for our meetings.
Church Service
Rev. K. Teddy,Smits was in charge
of the Thanksgiving church service on
Sunday morning, The choir was ac-
companied by the -organist Miss
Agnes pray.
The sermon text was Philippians
4:11 verse For I have learned to find
resources in myself whatever the
circumstances. "
Is anyone in either congregation in-
terested in joining the United Church
and taking preparation classes in the
coming months?
There will be no Sunday School next
Sunday owing to the church Anniver-
sary October 18 at 11 a.m.
On October 20 there will be a Chris-
tian Education Committee meeting in
Thames Road Church at 8 p.m. The
following should attend: Sunday
School Superintendents, Respresen-
tatives from Sessions. Managers.
U.C.W.s and any teachers and
leaders.
Thames Road United Church
Women are invited to Elimville
U.C.W.'s meeting on Wednesday Oc-
tober 28 at 8 p.m.
The Explorer girls will hold their
first meeting on Wednesday October
21 at 7 p.m.,at Elimville Church. All
previous girls can still come and all
girls 9 to 12 years are welcome to
come.
.Induction Service
A fair crowd attended the Induction
Service for Rev. K. Teddy and Mrs.
Smits. Rev. Debra Hoekstra of Hib-
bert United Church was the presiding
minister. Mrs. Marilyn Pym and Mrs.
Marjorie Johns read two different
Scripture passages.
Rev. Robert Sinasac of Dashwood
gave the sermon on "Faith, Love and
Hope" which was very meaningful.
Mrs. Marjorie Johns played the
organ and Rev. K. Teddy Smits
played the piano. several very pleas-
ing numbers which were much
enjoyed.
Rev. Brian Elder of Crediton and
Rev. Donald Pletsch of Mitchell were
the presiding officers.

at Hibbert Church

Rev. Donald Pletch was in charge
of the Sunday morning service at Hib-
bert United Church, with a large
crowd in attendance. Four children
were presented for baptism during
the service.
Those baptized were, "Sarah Jane
.Christie" daughter of Jack and Bet-
ty Ann Christie, "Angela May Dock-
ing" daughter of Jim and Bonnie
Docking, "Amanda Marie Anderson"
daughter of Marion Anderson, and
"William Timothy Butson" son of
Allan and Linda Buston.
Attending the baptism service and
later dinner guests with Art and
Esther Smale, Marion and Amanda
were, Mrs. Mary Hocking, Jim Hock-

Mrs. Doris Miller hosted the Public
Relations meeting of the Staffa
Women's Institute at her home on
Wednesday evening, September 30,
when the Perth School District Presi-
dent, Mrs. Helen Sinclair, Mitchell,
was guest speaker.

the members a little history on herself
and also a short account of the recent

The sermon topic at 'Lion United
Church was taken from Psalm 24:1-10
and Mark II:1-10 titled All This and
Heaven Plus.
The choir sang a special number
"The Strength of God's Hand", writ-
ten by Mrs. Charles Browning Sr's.

U.C.W. bazaar and bake sale will be

with everyone observing a minutes
silence in memory of Mrs. Doreen
Chappel. a faithful member.
In the absence of the secretary,
Mrs. Lillian Douglas read the minutes
of the previous meetings and the cor-
respondence. Special thank you cards
were read and the president express-
ed her thanks to all who had planned
summer events and set up displays
etc.
Members were reminded of the up-
coming Perth County Rally to be held
Thursday October 8 in St. Joseph's
Parish Hall, Stratford with registra-
tion at 9 a.m., everyone to bring a dish
for the pot luck lunch and their own
cutlery and dishes.
Resolutions and a change in the
bylaw was discussed for the London
area Convention, hosted by Perth
South at the St. Marys Community
Centre on October 15 and 16. Mrs.
Verle Mahon will be Staffa's voting
delegate and Doris Miller and Rober-
ta Templeman will provide the ar-
ticles for the craft table.
The October meeting was review-
ed with Mrs. Esther Smale offering to
host it October 28.
Institute grace was sung and
everyone enjoyed a tasty lunch serv-
ed by Joyce Vivian and Doris Miller.

honoured their mother on her 85th bir-
thday with a dinner party Saturday in
the Family Life Centre.

to honour the former's sister Mrs.
Jannie Turnbull of Aylmer who was
celebrating her 90th birthday. It was
indeed a special occasion, for she has
a family of 11 children. and they were
all present. Mrs. Turnbull was the
former Jannie McCullagh, and grew
up in this community a mile south of
Farquhar. She has one brother, Jim
McCullagh of Gravenhurst, who was
unable to attend the gathering.
BEST ATHLETE AT NMDHS — John Michielson presented the outstan-
ding female athlete award to Susan Ingham at Friday's Commence-
ment at North Middlesex District High School in Parkhill. In addition
to other awards, Susan also took home the chemistry award.
