Television weatherman opens Ilderton Farr
As the weather improved Saturday
the crowds continued to arrive to
makethe 136th edition of the Ilderton
Fall Fair one of the most successful
in recent years.
Secretary Andrea Vahey reports
total attendance figures.were in ex-
cess of 7,000, a modest increase over
a near ago.
The fair opened Friday night with
an amateur show followed - by the
crowning of Kathy MacNaughton as
Ilderton Fair Queen by last year's
winner Lisa Smith. Runnerup was
Laurie McRae.
The calf scramble championship
was won by Mark Kennedy's animal.
It was purchased by Ralph Bos Meats

Country Meats of Ailsa Craig.
In the open market steer category.
George DeBlock was the winner and
in the auction the steer went to Ralph -
Bos Meats, Ray Filson was reserve
champion.
The prize for the best market lamb
went to Jason Thuss. Kerwood and
Tom Paine. also of Kerwood exhibited
the best ram.
In goat judging. Kelly Stokes of
Fordwich was the winner of the best
doe in show.
Saturday's parade was led by the
new Queen. fair president Glenn
Phillips. homecraft division chairper-
son Joan Leitch and CFPL TV
weatherman Jay Campbell who later
officially opened the fair.
Each entry was described and iden-
tified by master of ceremonies Hugh
Filson upon arriving at the
fairgrounds. Ilderton.
The First Ilderton Cubs were first Most points for children 10 years
in the marching youth category. Med- and under went to Erin Lee. Ailsa
way high school won in club and Craig and the winner for ages 11 to 17
organization, Bryanston Cubs were
best in junior floats, Parkview Apart ' l
ments won in group comics and the
Hendersons were judged tops in the
family division.
In junior exhibits the overall win-
ner was Sherri Dickie. Ilderton.
Ruth Dickie was best in baking.
canning honours went to Janice
O'Neil. Denfield and best in a new
overall category for flowers, han-
diwork and baking was Anne
Verhallen. Denfield.
Jean Donley Denfield was best in
cut flowers. Marlene Watkins, Hyde
Park topped the potted plant category
and Betty Parkin, Ilderton won in
flower arrangements.
The best in show in photography
was exhibited by Paul Vogel,'

Youth meet
at Centralia

Carter chose as her topic We res-
pond In Faithful Living". It was also
Sacrament Sunday.
The young high school people met
in the- afteroon•at the manse for ac-
tivities and hot dogs. All high school
students are welcome. •
A very pretty wedding took place
Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Church and Mt. Carmel where
Pauline Overholt and Bradley Tait
exchanged marriage vows. A recep-
lion followed at Exeter Legion.
For the gathering at Keegan's Inn
September .28 prizes went to Ruth
Guest, Marie Veel. Jackie Ly'ena.

Owing to our next meeting falling
on Thanksgiving Day the next euchre
will be held on Monday October 26 al

Asurprise birthday party was held
m Seaforlh Thursday evening for
Laurie Mills. Iter parents Jerry and
Carol Mills attended along with the
family. Belinda Mills 'of Iluron Park
celebrated her birthday recently at
Exeter ('offer shop where she was
surprised to be joined by the family.
Visitors with Tom and I Wednesday
were Mrs. Wheeler of Quebec, Kay
Tripp and Carol Mills. Mrs. Wheeler
left for her home in Quebec after
almost a months visit _ with her
daughter Kay Tripp. We also visited
with Otto and Dorothy Darling. Lucan
on Monday evening.
Torn and Mary Kooy were guests on
Saturday at the Tait -Overholt wed-
ding also other neighbours. A large
crowd attended the dance on the
evening. -
