Times-Advocate, 1987-10-07, Page 25Readers write Womn Toda September 28, 1987 Dear Editor, We would like your readers to be aware of an event that our two organizations, the Huron County medical Society and Women Today are co -sponsoring. Basin's Home Remedy for Nuclear War will appear one night only at the Blyth Memorial Hall on Thursday, October 15 at 8 p.m. This one man musical comedy show is theatre with a definite point of view: anti-nuclear, pro -peace. This will be a lively and enlightening even- ing for anyone interested in learning more about the issue of peace and • nuclear disarmament - while having fun and being entertained. Readers may be curious as to why two quite different organizations would join forces to bring this event s onsor play to Huron County. Both the Medical Society and Women 'Today are primarily involved in promoting health and we strongly believe that peace is a health issue. We are supported by the World Health Organization which names peace as a fundamental condition and pre -requisite for health. It is not only the potential total loss of life on the planet that nuclear build up threatens. Our mental health is also affected as we face the despair of an uncertain future. Women Today and the Medical Society are also both committed to social responsibility. When tax dollars are diverted into nuclear armaments, funds are diverted from the quality medical services and innovative health promotion activities that is our Libraryopen house Middlesex County Library is celebrating Ontario Public Library Week with an Open House Tuesday, October 20. Director Ron Westlake was in charge and opened the Rally with a chorus "I'm So Glad I Belong To The Family of God". Pastor Terry Wood- cock of Calvary Baptist Church, Goderich opened with prayer. Ron called on the members of the Quiz team who had been at Circle "C" Ranch in Delawan, N.Y. on July 25 and had won the trophy for the, first time for a team from Canada. The trophy was on display and each member of the team gave a testimony on what the trip had meant to them. Following the singing of the chorus The film "Twice Pardoned" was shown. This two part film has been released just recently and contained a very challenging message for both young and old. The November Rally will be held at the school on Saturday evening November 7 with Rev. Wally Stephen- son of Burford as guest speaker. A quartet from Rev. Stephenson's church will provide special music. In November the Bible Quiz Team will begin Their study of the Word. In December Rev. Wes Aarum of Circle "C" Ranch will be the guest speaker.
