Brigadoon star feels at home in Grand Bend
plans, or H.H.S.P.s were completely
gone. It was back to the world of the
theatre; back to the bigger than life
world of Brigadoon.
Allison Grant will sing and dance
her way into your heart during the
Huron Country Playhouse run of
Brigadoon until September 5.
Allison Grant, who plays the temale
lead "Fiona" in Brigadoon, now in
mid -run at Huron Country Playhouse,
was looking forward to the five weeks
here in Grand Bend. She knew all
about The Bend and had visited many
times when she was living at home
with her parents in London.
Huron Country Playhouse has pro-
ven to be one of the best summer
theatre elcperiences ever, according
to Grant. Not only is this a very
warm, friendly company of actors,
but the audiences are so receptive,
and "of course you have this incredi-
ble lake here to enjoy", she explained.
. On stage, we see Allison as Fiona,
the young maiden, waiting for her
true love to come along. Some of the
dialogue is so melodramatic, it can
only be plausible if one remembers
the people in Brigadoon are bigger
than life.
Allison has the rare talent of being
able to handle the two aspects of
theatre. Although she is a singer and
dancer, she loves the classics (such
as Shakespeare and Shaw) and is
capably trained le move into this
spttere of the melodramatic. She com-
bines her Bachelor of Music degree
with ballet training at The Danee Cen-
tre in London, England, enabling her
to capture parts in such divergent
productions as "Cats" last year, plus
every Gilbert and Sullivan show at the
Stratford Festival since 1982.
The "behind the scenes" Allison is
as naturally charming as the one on
stage.
Although her parents encouraged
her to make her own career decisions,
Allison had as role models a very
theatre -oriented family. Her mother
Toni Grant plays and teaches violin,
performing with Orchestra London.
Her father, also a violinist, plays with
Orchestra London and Fanshawe Or-
chestra. Her one married sister plays
with the Orchestra and one of her four
brothers is a, cellist. Two of her
brothers perform in the rock group
"Equus" which has been appearing
this summer in Grand Bend at The
Gables. The fourth is a video artist.
Nursing or a secretarial career ap-
parently never crossed Allison's
mind.
Up until recently, "my biggest in-
vestment was my bus pass" laughed
Allison when asked about her offstage
lifestyle. Two weeks ago, Allison and
her partner Daniel Bowman bought a
house in Toronto. A day off during the

she explained, not being a real beach

Long-range plans mean investigating
more radio drama, such as has been

it is a lonely and isolated aspect of the
