Poin- ting out that more money was being allocated to'CQnservative held ridings to build roads than to ridings such as Huron is a concerted effort to buy more votes in those Conservative ridings. Peters pointed to Highway -4 bet- ween Blyth -and Wingham as a road desperately in need of rebuilding. He pointed out that current plans are to merely patch and repair only the poorest portions of the highway. "We have a right to expect that the ma- jor roads in our -county are up to stan- dards," he said. Over 50 area supporters turned out to a luncheon at the Wingham Golf and Curling Club -to hear and meet Peters and Ross Stevenson, the Con- servative Agriculture Critic. last Monday. Stevenson stated that while the Con- servatives had always worked to keep the number of government employees at a minimum, the Liberals in just the past two years have increased the number of civil servants by 5,(X0 new employees .fully at taxpayers expense. Noting that there has been nineteen (19) tax increases since the Liberals came to power, Stevenson said. Liberal) .government has :i5 percent more money taken from tax- payer's pockets and as long as we are willing to pay it they will.he happy to spend it." Affirming that the agricultural crisis is not about to quickly disap- pear, Stevenson advocated giving farmers richer subsidies along with incentives to take some cropland out of cash crop production. Though not giving further details of his party's position on this he says that "an agricultural flyer" would soon be available to the public. Peters stated that he would like the current provincial government to display "more of the financial management that all wage earners. farmers and small businesses are ex- pected to display "1 want my children to inherit the prosperity and riches of Ontairo, not the mounting provincial deficit and a group of aimless prograins...financial management does not mean no spending --but rather wise spending. We are expected to do this. why can't we expect our provincial government to do the same?" t • COUNTY OF HURON QUOTATION FOR WINTER SAND Sealed tenders, marked as to contents, will be received by the undersigned until 4:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, July 16, 1987 for the supply and floutingof sand to the County stockpiles in Auburn and Wroxeter.
