Hay Reeve Lionel Wilder presented a cheque of $4,000 from the township to pay part of the cost of the new fur- niture in the foyer and the main lounge. The first four people to be recognized are lir. Charles Wallace, Mrs. Annie Van Raay, Orval Wassman and 1986-87 board chairman Ian McAllister. McAllister brought up two matters being considered by the board. He said directors are discussing enlarg- ing the building to provide more privacy for residents intheirrooms. The board is debating whether or not to add more beds at the same time. At present the Rest Home has a 64 -bed capacity, plus the 10 apart- ment units. . Dr. Wallace, medical director of the !tome, spoke up to say that when the home was originally planned, govern- ment and architects had designed the facility so that in future additional wings could ultimately increase the total accommodation of the main building to 100. RON KFYS VARNA Representing Trust Companies across Ontario 262-6273 McAllister said the matter ha arisen at this time as Huronview is being studied for future renovation and possible decentralization. If this occurred, he speculated on the possibility of some portion presently served by Huronview being added to the Blue Water Rest Home.' Wilder interjected to say he believ- ed the Huronview program has been deferred for the present because of the unexpectedly high projected costs.. He predicted nothing will be done there until the next decade. The other topic the board has been discussing is whether or not to impose a mandatory retirement age of 65. The present constitution contains no policy on retirement. McAllister said that board members are concerned that as some employees age, they may experience difficulties carrying out duties which require physical strength. Another argument in favour us uwttwswry retirement would be the creation of more openings for young people wishing to find work in their community. • Dr. Wallace disagreed, arguing that people aged 65 are younger physically and mentally now than In previous generations. He asked if the board was prepared to provide pensions. McAllister replied that no one on the board received a company -paid pension, and some had been forced to retire at 65. He said if the policy was introduced it would not be made retroactive. A show of hands on the issue pro- duced 16 in favour of mandatory retirement and five opposed. Claire Deichert was acclaimed to the board of directors as a member at large. Robert Westlake was elected 1987-88 chairman of the board. Having a hard time finding a car that's right for you?
