Seniors get increase

To help Ontario seniors continue to
live independently in their own
homes, Ontario Treasurer Robert
Nixon announced an increase in the
rnaximwn Property Tax Grant to
$600 from $500 a year. This increase
will be reflected in the Fall 1987 grant

seniors' households.
Eligibility to receive the grant has
not changed. Seniors may be eligible
to receive a Property Tax Grant if
they are 65 years of age or older, have
their principal residence in Ontario

Application forms for the grant are
sent automatically to •all Ontario
residents who receive Old Age Securi-
ty. Seniors who do not receive Old Age
Security may obtain an application,by
contacting the Ministry of Revenue.
Through this increase, eligible
seniors will receive the maximum
$600 Property Tax Grant if their pro-
perty taxes, or 20 percent of their rent
is 5600 or more. Where the annual pro-
perty tax or 20 percent of their rent
is less than 5600, seniors will receive
a Property 'fax Grant in an amount
equivalent to the property tax or 20
percent of the rent.
