Times-Advocate, 1987-06-17, Page 27As summer. rolls around, the Village if Hensall is providing a supervised "Creative Kids Play" pro- gram at the playground: The program will run for six con- secutive weeks beginning July 6 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. for children from the ages of 5-13. Swimming lesson in Vanastra will again be offered to those who are Interested. A lot of exciting activities have been planned for a summer filled with lots of fun and creativity. Throughout the program the children will be involved in a drama production which will be presented at the end of the season to their families and friends. Registration for . both the playground program and swimming lesson will be held at the Mensal! and District Community Centre on Thurs- day, June 25 from 5:30 - 9 p.m. Playground leaders Jennifer Thom- son, Theresa Vanwieren and Christine Huston will be there to meet you and answer any questions. - The Hensall and District Ilor- ticultural Society enjoyed a trip on June 8 to the Rose Garden in Wind- sor's Jackson Park. The group of 42 from Hensall and area stopped for-' lunch at "The Other Place" in Wind- sor followed by a jaunt to Colio Winery in Harrow for a tour andWine- tasting. After a visit -to Colasanti Gardens in Ruthven they wound up the even- ing with a tour of the facilities and dinner at Wheel's In in Chatham. Three Links St'niors The Three Links Seniors held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening June 9 with president Aldeen Volland presiding. Final -plans were made for the visit to Huronview on June 17toentertain the residents for their June birthday party. Members are to meet at the• Club Rooms at 12:45 p.tn. On June 25 the members wilt be go- ing to Huronview for a luncheon and - entertainment. - There will be no meeting during Ju- ly and August. Promotion Sunday June 14 was Sunday School Promo- tion and Awards Day at Hensall United Church. - The front of the church was a mass of evergreens and flowers in memory of Margaret Wein, formerly of Ex- • •eter, who passed away recently in Ot- tawa. She was the mother of Doug of Ottawa, and his wife is the former Gerry Parker, daughter of Harold and Dorothy. Flowers were also placed in memory of Mary Mellis, a member of the Kippen United Church. Our sympathy is extended to Gerry Glen whose mother passed away sud- denly in Lucknow last Thursday and also to the Taylor family on the tragic loss of their daughter, Donna. - • The• theme for the service as • "Trees" and Mr. Cowan, who con- ducted the service, told the children about a tree that loved a little boy. When he was little he played in the tree, then as he grew up he used ap- ples to sell, its branches to build a house, its trunk to make a book and finally the -stump to sit on and meditate. The tree felt very happy to be helpful. So childrei , doing what Jesus wants them to do can love and help other and make them happy. Queenswaj Hello, and welcome to Queensway News. To start off, we have to men- tion the super time we had last Sat day at the Ifepsall Parade. We hope everyone caught a glance, and gave us a wave when the Queensway float passed by. The people who were on the float, enjoyed every second of the parade, and were very proud to repre- sent our home. An event like the parade cannot go by without saying some very deserv- ed "thank yous". To begin we'd like to thank all the volunteers, and staff members who came out Saturday morning •tb help us decorate. Queensway would also like to thank the entire Gascho family for helping otit, and for putting a lot of time and effort into our float. Monday afternoon was set aside for Music Fun. Several of us got together to enjoy 41 wide vsriety.of music. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. On Tuesday afternoon, Queensway had the pleasure of welcoming back Pastor Van Essen, who conducted an. enlightening church service, and we look forward to his next visit. Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., our • Ladies Auxiliary met and discussed several upcoming events. In the after- noon Sue Cross from New Age Looms in Toronto dropped by to give us a weaving demonstration, as well as to .. let us try the New Age Loom. Thursday evening our movie of the week was shown at 7 p.m. This week's feature. "Fiji , was a travel film about the culture and the island itself. Friday afternoon was time to make -decorations for our Queensway Float. Thanks to a superb group effort, we were able to design and make q.4.1Ie necessary decorations. •Finally,' on Sunday afternoon the Lakeview Conservative Youth Group dropped in to share their singing talents with us. We'd like to thank them for coming in to visit and enter-. tain us. Before we sign off, we just wanted to remind you that June is Senior Month, and that next week is Nursing Home Week (June 21 -June 261.
