Short course ends
Large crowd attends anniversary at Hibbert United Church

The church was filled for the an-
niversary service of the Hibbert
United Church on Sunday morning
with Miss Debra Hoekstra the pastor.
Guest minister for the service was
Rev. Ernest Dow, Norwich.
Music for the service was provided
by Gwen Christie, on the organ and
Joyce --Fell on- the violin. Special__
music was a solo by Gordon Miller.
Following the service Bill Mahon
made a presentation df a gift to
Ernest from the Hibbert United
Church congregation congratulating
him on his ordination recently at Sault
Ste. Marie.
Gwen Ilarburn made a presenta-
tion to Debra Hoekstra, on behalf of
the congregation, congratulating her
on receiving her commission. •
Short course
The second and final meeting of the
short course. short order meals was
held Tuesday evening in the township
hall at 7 p.m. Everyone contributed
to a pot luck dinner by bringing one
or more dishes made from the short
course manual.
Following dinner, leaders Lillian
Douglas and Kay Smale reminded
everyone of summary night, Tues-
day. June 2, when Debbie Campbell

L.- ...4rd expressed thanks to Lillian
and Kay on behalf of the group.
Mrs. Harold Parsons ind Mrs. Glen
Parsons and son Matthew, Delta,
British. Columbia visited this past
week with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Par-
sons and other friends and relatives
in the community.
John and Roberta Templeman ac-
companied the Perth County Holstein
members and their wives on a four
day bus trip to Vermont, U.S.A.
where they visited several dairy
herds, the Sherborne . Museum, and
enjoyed a supper cruise on Lake
Champagne.
Doris Miller visited Monday with
Bob and Jean Maver, Exeter.
WI meets
Marjorie Drake presided for the
May meeting of the Staffa Women's
Institute, held in the township hall on
Wednesday evening when 4-H
members and leaders were special
guests.
Marjorie opened with the Institute
()de and Mary Stewart Collect and
welcomed our guests to the -meeting.
Marjorie read a humorous reading,
The homesick City Slicker. Everyone
enjoyed a musical selection played by
Marion McCaughey on the piano.
There were 15 members and 10
visitors present to answer the roll call
by naming and describing your
favourite bird.
Three interesting displays were set
up for all to view, Staffa one set up a
display entitled "Follow the signs" .
Doris Jeffery and Freda Kerslake are
the leaders. Staffa two set up a
display entitled "Snack N Go". Nan-
cy Dearing and Linda Butson are the
leaders. Staffa three set up a display
entitled "Clothing Care". Kay Smale
and Sherri llunsberger are the
leaders.
Susan Dearing gave some very in-
• teresting cotnments on the 4-11 club
just completed. "Surviving With
Style". Susan said everyone had real-
ly enjoyedthis club because of the
variety of subjects included.
-Presentations were made to several
of the 4-11 girls. Katie Kerslake was
presented with a trillium cup and
saucer for successfully completing 24
4-11 clubs. Although unable to be pre-
sent Tracy Schrader will be presented
with an Ontario cup and saucer for
successfully completing 18 4-1-1 clubs.
Joan Kerslake, Cathy Smale and
Heather Rice, were each presented
• with Ontario mugs for successfully
completing 12 4-11 clubs and receiving
their provincial honours.
Hazel Harburn gave some in-
teresting garden hints. Before the.4-H
'members left. Florence McPhail and
Doreen ('happel served a cool drink,
fruit bread and cheese. The president,
Roberta Templeman presided for the
business, opening with a poem
"Advertising for the Women's
Institute."
Donations were made to the South
Hibbert Athletic Association and the
Butler project. An invitation to attend .
the 35th anniversary of the Glen
Gowrie Women's Institute on June 24
was accepted. A letter from the Mit-
chell Agricultural Society regarding
sponsoring a candidate for queen of
the fair was read.
Kay Smale reported on the Perth
South District annual, reminding
everyone of several upcoming dates:

Quilt display at the Lambton Museum
June 27 - July 5. The 90th anniversary
convention of the Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario in North Bay Ju-
