One of Exeter's finest young hockey
prospects is continuing his training
processes throughout the summer
months.
Joel Campbell, who was the scoring
star of the Exeter Broncos atom team
during the 1986-87 season has joined
the St. Thomas Li'l Knights all star
atom team.
The son of John and Janice Camp-
bell of 293 Carling street in Exeter,
Joel joined the Li'l Knights in their
first practice in St. Thomas April 19
and will be attending similar
workouts, exhibition games and tour-
naments each Sunday evening until
Au : ust 23.

During last season with the Bron-
cos, Joel scored 97 goals in 30 games
and impressed other teams and their
fans wherever -he went.
Li'l Knights coach Jim Moore said,
"Joel's a'epliltation preceded him. I
first heard about him from the Lon-
don Jets,.,a triple A team."
Moore continued, "I have been very
impressed with him. He's a strong
skater, a good natured kid and a team
player. He has exactly what I have
been looking for. That's the desire to
play. Ile's also anxious to learn and
improve and a great youngster to
work with."
Players on the Li'l Knights come
from London, St. Thomas.Brantford
Kitchener and Wingham in addition
to Exeter,
About°the team concept Moore said,
"I selected players from Western On-
tario who have advanced knowledge
and skills for their age. We are
primarily practice oriented with an .
occasional exhibition game and tour-
nament. We are not a high pressured
organization."
Moore continued, "Our program is
designed with the concept of pro-
viding young hockey players with the
continued opportunity to refine both

Employees and customers of the
six financial institutions in town com-
piled a total of 627 miles on exerciser
bikes.
Other activities included vacuum-
ing, gardening. washing cars, shuf-
Gleboard and farm work.
Students from South Huron District
High School. Exeter Public School
and Precious Blodd'Separate School
participated in monster aerobic
classes at the Rec Centre ball
diamonds and the EPS skipping
teams put on a demonstration.
The obstacle race held on John
street. east of Main was won by the
Ontario Provincial Police team. They
defeated the PUC team in -the semi-
final and downed the Town Criers in
the final test.
Residents of Exeter turned in a
good performance in their first try in
the Canada -wide Participaction
Fitness Day.
Exeter finished in 30th spot among
68 communities competing in Ontario
with a percentage of 50.67. The overall
Canadian average was 41.28 percent.
All across Canada. figuCes show:
3,600,469 persons of all ages
participated.
In a closer to home competition Ex-
eter finished behind the towns of
Hanover and Walkerton. Hanover
wa's third in all of Canada with 80.63
percent of the population taking part
and Walkerton's percentage was
59.58,
Rec Director Lynne Farquhar said
she was pleased with the local par-
ticipation. She added, "A lot of peo-
ple got out to do -a variety of exercises.
That was the main idea to get people
exercising in any way possible. For
the first time the response was very
acceptable." -
The range of exercising activities
was very wide. More than 20

five mile block, South Huron Hospital
• staff engaged in 15 minutes of skipp-
ing and twisting hula hoops. church

The. St. Thomas coach added that
he didn't think summer training was
giving .young . players too much
hockey saying, "There are gymnasts,
swimmers and figure skaters practic-
ing 12 months of the year, then why
not hockey players. The important
thing is that they continue to have'
fun.'

with most of this year's squad back
ar the nucleus.
Each player on the team was re-
quired to pay a registration fee of $75
when the Li'l Knights began on April
19 and Joel's father John Campbell
says, "It's well worth it and Joel is ,
getting more than his money's
worth."
In their first tournament in Cam-
bridge, the Li'l Knights won the 'I3' -
championship and Joel scored two
goals and assisted on four of five goals
fired by Joey Coombs of Brantford
who has become one of his best
friends.
A grade six student at Exeter
Public School, Joel is the only 71
member of the Li '1 Knights who hast
not played triple A hockey before.
Joel is excited about his involve- -
ment with the St. Thomas based team
saying, "This hockey is much faster
and more exciting. We learn a lot
more about strategy. I hope I can stay
with this club right through to midget
ranks".
Asked about his hockey aspirations
Joel' replied, "I. have ambitions to
combine my hockey career with a col-
lege education." •
Local hockey fans will be more than
welcome to attend the next exhibition
game for the Li'l Knights. They will
be meeting Waterloo Southwest _Blues
at the St. Thomas Elgin Memorial
Arena on Sunday, June 14 between the
hours of 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Thornhill_ July 17-19; Peterborough
The Li'l Knights are entered in tour- July 31 -August 3 and St. Thomas
