Euchre at Crediton

The Women's Institute sponsored a
euchre party March :31 with 12 tables
playing.

Thanks to everyone for coming out
and helping make the euchres a suc-
cess as this is the last one and they
will resume again next January. 1988.
Crediton United Church Women's
meeting was held Thursday evening
April 2.
Mary Elder and Linda Finkbeiner
• led a very interesting devotional pro
gram focusing on the Empty Tomb
and our response to it, and also ways
of witnessing to our church and
community.
Mary Kenney presided for
business. Roll call was answered by
a verse with praise in it. Minutes were
read and reports given.
Our next meeting will be April 30 as
we are invited to meet with Centralia
for their regular meeting May 7.
Special Event meeting is at Kirkton
April 29 at 6 p.m. May 6 and 7, a quilt
show at SI. Marys..
The sermon topic at Zion United
Church was Matthew 26:69 and 27:2
read by Douglas Lightfoot.. Rev.
Elder's sermon was titled "The Grace
of Disillusionment".
Choir practice wiij be held Wednes-
day evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Sun-
day school rooms. If anyone wishes to
sing in the choir we need help, some
of our girls are working and our choir
is getting smaller so if you like please
join us.
The April meeting of the Official
Board will be Wednesday evening at
8 p.m. in the Sunday school rooms.

The Rev. Frank Braby celebrated
Holy Eucharist at St. Thomas
Anglican Church assisted by John
Herbert. Marlene French was
organist. Kenneth Iloar read the two
lessons.
It being the fifth Sunday of Lent,
commonly called Passion Sunday.
Rev. Braby explained "it is a time to
remember the rebirth of the Israelite
nation as dreamed by Ezekiel and the
rebirth of Lazarus due to' his faith in
Jesus as told in the first lesson and in
the gospel of John. Rev. Braby
pointed out how both lessons display
the suffering, the strong in faith must
bear before the Resurrection.
Service next Sunday will be at 8:30
a.m. It being Palm Sunday there will
be blessing and distribution of palms
Granton United Church
At Granton United Church, the Rev.
Bruce Pierce was in charge of the
morning worship and took the theme
for his sermon from the book of
Chronicales. The scripture lesson was
read by Juanita Kop. The minister's -
message was entitled "God's Brutal
Love".
In the children's time, the Rev.
Pierce told them about being careful
where they went, and not to go with
strangers and not to go any place -
alone.

Geode at Cromarty

Mrs,. Lucie Milne, Mitchell, con-
ducted the church service on Sunday
morning at 9 a.m. and for her
children's story showed them a geode.
which is a stone having a cavity lin-
ed with erystals. She said geodes are
like people, you have to look inside to
find the good and beautiful. Her ser-
mon was entitled Where Was God
When? based on the story of the
widow of Nain.
The responsive reading from Luke
7 was taken by Dan Elliott.The junior
choir, with Carol Ann Scott at the
organ sang Something to Sing About.
The Marian Ritchie W.M.S. are in-
vited to the spring thankoffering
meeting of Sea forth W.M.S. on
Wednesday evening. A congrega-•
tional meeting of Cromarty
Presbyterian Church will be held in
the basement on Monday, April 13.
Mary Elliott. Edna Stoneman and
Ruth Laing represented the Marian
Ritchie W.M.S. at the Stratford -I luron
Presbyterial annual meeting in Knox
Church. Stratford last week.
Bob and Ruth Laing visited Sunday
with Mrs. Margaret Leddy, Clinton,
and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Jefferson,
Donnybrook.
First Cromarty Scouts. Cubs and
Beavers had an excellent response to
their annual bottle drive on Saturday.
They would like to thank all who
contributed.
