Diabetes canvass raises
Thanks to all the volunteer can-
vassers who collected for the diabetes
association, and as a result the sum
of $1,210' was realized for this very
good cause. Special thanks to Captain
Eleanor Riley who workedyery hard.
Music students
Congratulations to piapo pupils of
Laurie Erb who took part in the an-
•nual music festival in London
throughout the week. A list of names
and marks will appear in next week's
paper.
85th birthday
A little surprise 85th -birthday cake
and get together was held for Mrs.
Juliette Denomme last Thursday
evening after the play "Three Bright
Girls" by the cast over at the Rectory,
hosted by Theresa Stark.
Merinda Grenier celebrated her
2nd birthday on Sunday at her home
in Exeter with parents .Gerard and
Judy and family. grandparents Tony
and Adeline Denomme of Zurich and
godparents Michael and Beatie Rau
of Dashwood.
Ottawa protest
• Many farm groups including the
Catholic Rural Life Conference, went
to Ottawa on Sunday to protesL
against the sell-out of Free Trade as
President Reagan and Prime
Minister Mulroney were there over
the weekend.
The Mass of Chrism will be held at
St. Peter's Cathedral on Monday
April 13 at 7:30 p.m. by Bishop
Sherlock.
Encor in Stratford
A get together for "Encor" on Sun-
day April 12 from 2-10 p.m. at St.
Joseph's Parish Hall in Stratford will
include a discussion period, followed
by supper and a dance. Each youth
attending is to bring $3.00
Bridal showers
A bridal thrower was held for June
Straatman in Lucan, attended by
several relatives from town who are
related to her finance David Hart-
man, son of Cyrille and Anne. The
wedding is May 9 in Lucan.
On Sunday March 29 a bridal
. shower held for Denise Jeffrey,
daughter of Pat and Elaine, RR 2
Zurich at the home of her aunt Evelyn
Jeffrey was attended by several
friends and relatives. Everyone en-
joyed playing.a few games, followed
by the opening of many beautiful gifts
and a delicious lunch.- Denise is the
finance of Jim Dietrich, son of Harold
and Doreen, Zurich where another.

Tuesday evening with several of his
relatives attending. The couple will be
having a buck and doe dance at the
community centre in Ziurich on April
25 and plan to marry May 9.
Bingo winners
Julie Turkheim, Zurich, won $200
for the mystery prize and the jackpot
worth $750 went to Marg Roberts
from Grand Bend. Mteembers of the
Chamber of Commerce helped this
time. The next bingo will be on Thurs-
day, April -16 with special prizes for

CHAMPION THROWERS — Two Zurich Public School students did
very well in the 25 -school regional basketball free-throw contest held
at the Clinton high school. Jason Schilbe (left) coptured the first place
for boys age 12, and Justin Scott won the fhird-place medal .for
13 -year-olds.
This was the weekend for the clocks
to spring -ahead, which meant it took
a little more effort to spring out of
bed. However,) for one enjoy the ex-
tra day light hours.
Our movies last Monday evening
were "We Call Them Killers", "A
Visit to Epcot Centre" and "Magic
Lantern". Refreshments followed the
movies.
Residents were pretty well confin-
ed indoors during the past week, hav-
ing to pay up for the mild winter
we've had. However, activities within
the Home were as alive,as ever with
morning sessions of discussions, ex-
ercises, singing and other activities.
The afternoons are taken up with hob-
by sop activities, cookie baking on
Wednesday afternoon and some very
serious card games along with pool
and'shuffle board.

Final bowling
Monday was the last night of bowl-
ing for the ladies' teams until fall. All
will be looking forward to the banquet
and dance that is being held in Hen-
sall at the community- centre on
Saturday May 16.
Personals
Ray and Sarah Jeffrey and two
boys from London spent Sunday with
his mother Mrs. Dolly Jeffrey at St.
Joseph's.
Dave and Suzanne Bell from St.
Catharines spent the weekend with
her parents, Andrew and Alida Rau.
On Sunday a family get together was
held at the home of Doug and Mary -
Lou Turkheim . in honor of their
daughter Nicole's first Holy Commu-
nion ( with a special cake made in a
cross). The day was also to celebrate
birthdays for Dave on April 4 and
Nicole on the 9th.
It's nice to see that Mr. and'Mrs.
Elroy Desjardine arrived home safe
and sound on Sunday after motoring
from Arizona where they have been
since last October. Recently some
people (so-called snow birds) who
spent the winter months in Florida
have returned home. Included are
Mr: and Mrs. -Gord-Hess and his
mother Beatrice, and _Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Yungblut. It's good to see them
all back again:

eter on Wednesday April 29 to visit
various factory outlets in Kitchener,
TOURNAMENT
The third in a series of four bowl-
ing tournaments was held at the Town
and Country Lanes in Zurich on Sun-
day. This tournament was based on
a straight scratch basis. First place
winner of $150.00 was John Douglas,
second Ron Dann, Grand Bend; third,
Doug Donaldson; fourth Jim Bedard,
Zurich and fifth was Bob Atkinson of
Clinton.
Participants were from Stratford,
Clinton, Seaforth, Exeter, Grand
Bend, Hensall, Goderich and Zurich.

for Roy Gingerich on Sunday after-
noon at the Blue -Water Rest Home
( where he and his wife, Clair live in
the apts.) Attending were Mr. and
Mrs. Melvin Gingerich and family,

family and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Zielman and family.
A joint birthday supper was held at
the home of Phil and Vonnie Overholt
on Sunday in honor of sons-in-law
Joey Overholt, London and Joe
Becker of Dashwood.
Members of the Hensall Old Timers
Hockey team along with their wives
spent the weekend in Flint, Michigan
as the men played in a hockey
tournament.
Herb and Donna Klopp, Zurich and
their two children, Martha and
Douglas Klopp enjoyed spending last
-week in Venezuela along with a group
of 26 people (employees and friends
from the Pinedale Hotel in Grand
Bend) which was also a honeymoon
trip for Bill and Shirley Fischer.
Afara Van Wonderen of RR 1 Var-
na recently spent a week in Edmon-
ton visiting with her daughter Nelly
Van Wonderen and this past week
Afara's two sisters visited with her,
Margaret from Toronto and Sr. Mar-__
ea Wee! who is Canada for a -month _–
vacation from Holland.
