Stabilization
announced
The Provincial and Federal.
Governments have announced
stabilization payments for each tonne,
of barley, corn and soybeans sold in
the crop year September 1, 1985 to
August 31, 1986 ( August 1. 1985 to Ju-
ly 31, 1986. for barley).
- Barley, Federal payment 2.46, Pro-
vincial payment 4.57: Corn. Federal
payment 8.92, Provincial payment
4.64; Soybeans, Federal payment
15.53, Provincial 9.70. -
Last summer soybean and corn
producers received a mid-term pay- -
ment on the tonnage sold through
licensed elevators in the period
September 1, 1985 to March :31, 1986.
They will now receive a payment on
the tonnage sold in the second half of
the year, plus a small amount on the
first half tonnage because the interim
payment per tonne was less than the
final calculated amount: The final
payment will also cover any farmer
to farmer sales that occurred in the
September 1. 1985 to August 31, 1986.
The applications for the Ontario
plan are being mailird to those enroll-
ed in the program. Farmers must
have been enrolled in the program in
order to receive payments.
The Federal application forms will
be mailed in about one month to
growers registered with the Corn Pro-
ducers' Association and the Ontario
Soya -Bean Growers' Marketing
board. Barley applications will be
mailed to those who have barley in-
sured with the Ontario Crop In-
surance Commission. There will also
be a supply of barley_ application
forms at the county _Agricultural
Offices.

The Grand Theatre will present
Athol Fugard's masterful drama of
South African life. Master Harold and
the Boys. Opening on February 13 and
running until March 7, Master Harold
and the Boys will be directed by The
Grand Theatre's Artistic Director,
Larry Lillo and star George Serem-
ba. Lan Watson and Lanyard A..
Williams. The set, costumes and
lighting will be designed by Allan
Stichbury.
Master Harold and the Boys
focuses on three South Africans, one
white and two black. who, in the
course of one afternoon, are profound-
ly affected by racism. South African -
born Athol Fugard drew from per
sonal experience in, writing this
powerful play which illustrates the
human costs of institutionalized
hatred. Included among Fugard's
other plays are Sizwe Bansi Is Dead.
Reesman and Lena, and A Lesson
Front Aloes. The Bloodknot, one of his
earliest successes, was recently
revived on Broadway, with Fugard in
the lead role, and earned a Tony

tional White Cane Week, February 1
to 7, a week of special events and
demonstrations designed to increase
the public's awareness of blindness
and how it affects people's lives.
White Cane Week is sponsored by
the two major organizations for and
of blind dnd visually impaired in-
dividuals in Canada: The Canadian
National Institute for the Blind
(CNIB ) and the Canadian Council of
the Blind (CCB).
"This year's theme underlines the
fact that individuals can function ef-
fectively - at a job, at home, in the
arts - even without full sight," says
Eculid Herie, the CNIB's Managing
Director.
- "The visually impaired learn to use
their other senses to compensate for
lack of sight and, with the use of the
innov ive technical " aids now
avail e, are capable of doing much
mor than the general public is
awe e."
Mrs. Gerry Braak, recently elected
National -President of the CCB, says
that blind people want to be useful,
contributing members of society, and
that can only be achieved if the rest
of society recognizes the capabilities
of the blind.
"White Cane Week is the opportuni-
ty for us to show the public what be-
ing blind is all about. Unless people
understand what we are trying to
achieve, as full an integration in
society (of blind people) as possible,
we well never build bridges between
the- blind and the sighted," -Mrs.
Braak said. - -
White Cane Week activities start
February 1. The 50 CNIB offices and
more than 90 CCB clubs across
Canada are sponsoring a variety of
events, including bowling matches.
dances, demonstrations of technical
aids, displays, and talks to school
groups and service clubs.

Cane Week activities in your area, ,
