Irish assured of first place
The Lucan Irish have virtually clin-
ched first place in the southern divi-
sion of the OIIA Western Junior 'D'
league.
By taking five of a possible six
points this week the Irish upped their
season total to 54, six ahead of the se-
cond place Belmont Bombers. The ,
Lucan club has four remaining games
while Belmont has only three left to

Wednesday, -the Irish downed the
Brussels Bulk -8-5, Friday they played
to a 4 -4 -tie with the 'I'hantesfordTro-
jans and Sunday downed the Thedford
Lumberjacks 7-2

Wednesday to meet the Mount
Brydges Bulldogs and Saturday night
they travel to Belmont.

front running Brussels Balls.
Exeter dropped the Bulls by a 6-4
count on Friday night at the rec cen-
tre, while !Mitchell went into Brussels
on Sundae afternoon and scored a 5-2
triafnph over the slumping Bulls.
Mitchell also clohtiered Clinton on
Fridiiy to lake a one -point lead over
their Exeter namesakes for second
place.
Mitchell now trails Brussels by live
,points, while the Exeter crew are six

the score on a power play with assists
going to Joe Febrey and Crawford
and in a similar situation Grant
Larsen registered from Dean Doerr
and Bob Thirlwall.
The third Lucan goal of the second
period and in a span of less than a
minute was fired by Joe Febrey on
passes from Wayne Urbshott and Ron
Goodhand.
Another good start
In Thedford Sunday, the Irish
jumped into a 3-1 first period margin
and were never headed.
Defenceman• Scott Denomy fired
two of the opening scores. One came
on an unassisted effort and the other .
on a pass from fellow blueliner Brad
Hodgins. Mark Bannen converted a
pass from Brad Mui to complete the
first period tallying.
In the second se ion. Wayne Urb-
shott and Terr Knowles and Grant
Larsen were the Lucan marksmen.
Scott Denomy, - Paul Barnes, Brad
Muir and Joe Febrey assisted.
In the final 20 minutes of play,
Glenn Marshall converted passes
from Barnes and Denomy to com-
plete the Lucan scoring.
