The fourth Sunday in advent churcn
service was well attended on Sunday
morning.with Rev. Robert Mathes
in charge. The choir sang "The
Bethlehem Star" and "The Song of
Christmas" accompanied by he
organist Miss Agnes Bray. Rev.
Robert Matheson lit the peace candle,
the hope candle, the joy candle and
the love candle. Rev. Matheson read
the scripture lesson from Isaiah
7:10-16, Romans 1:1-7, Matthew
1:18-25. The sermon was entitled "Are
We Ready (to receive the Gift? ►.
For generations Biblical scholars
have wonderid if Isaiah's 'Immanuel'
in Isaiah 7:I0-16 was the Messiah -
Christ. One thing we can all be cer-
tain about is that God is present in the
birth of any child. In the story of
Isaiah's enounter with King Ahaz
Isaiah is really asking the king if he
is prepared for God to intervene in his
affairs of state. Is Ahaz prepared for
God to share Himself with our world?
Are we prepared for God to enter in-
to our activities out of love and con-
cern for us?
Paul asks if the world is ready for
God's gift of love: are we ready for
the birth of a baby in Bethlehem of
Judea:, are we ready for that child,

when grown, to be tried as a criminal ;
are we prepared for that man to be
crucified: are we ready for his death:
are we ready for his resurreciton?
Are we ever ready for God to walk
into our world? God is in our world at
all times and yet how does our world
-how do we witness that tact? How is
the love of God evidenced in our lives''
