talent. Now, the three major
American networks are laughing at
the Planned Parenthood people.
The networks have banned con-
traceptive advertising. They will not
allow it on the boob -tube. And hurray
for them. But Planned Parenthood
has attacked them, not for banning
such advertising, but for the double
standards the networks are
perpetrating. And hooray for Plann-
ed Parenthood, too. •
Let me explain. The networks have
been giving out with all kinds of sex
scenes for a dozen years. The sex
scenes get more explicit every year.
Planned Parenthood says television
promotes sexuality, even in their
commercials, but t ban any mention of
birth control in advertising and cen-
sor information about birth control in
other programs.
Let me state here, too that I am not
-- repeat, not -- giving a commercial
for planned parenthood. I abhor the
thought of abortion yet I still believe
a woman should have the means to
control her body. It is the hypocrisy
of the networks that is being discuss-
ed here.
Planned Parenthood advocates
have done their homework. They say
"it" happened 9,000 times on televi-
sion last year: "How come nobody got
pregnant?" they asked.
Well, howcum?
If these explicit sex scenes were
broadcast in our livingrooms, it
seems to me some explanation is
necessary as to why nobody got preg-
nant. The network moguls, who stead-
fastly refuse contraceptive advertis-
ing, should also refuse to run televi-
sion shows which exploit the sexual
act. The fault, dear Brutus, is with the
networks for allowing it to happen on
camera.
Am I being a prude? Maybe. I still
am not entirely in favor of sanitary

ingroom: Yam aittreVttt6ttifditable

box. If the network moguls are so
prim and proper, why don't they shun
these advertisements, too?
At least Planned Parenthood's at-
tack on the networks is more than
commercial. They say there were
more than a million teen-age
pregnancies last year in the Excited
States; therefore, young people
should have more access to sex
education and contraceptives.

Make thdlfor Christmas
By Lea Ryan
Family Resource Specialist
Time for shopping, time for baking,
time for entertaining, time for social
get-togethers. Do you look forward to
the Christmas season, or do you shud-
der when you think of what you want
to do before December 25?
Time, or the lack of it, presents a
problem to many families. However,
everyone has 24 and only 24 hours in
a day. None of us ,carr make extra
What's new
in air inlets
Most of us realize a very important
part of our ventilation system is the
air inlet. What's new in inlets? In the
past, we have struggled with manual-
ly adjustable inlets or ones adjusted
with a winch system. At best, we
could set them properly fifty per cent
of the time. Automatic static controll-
ed inlets work fine but tend to be
costly.
Some time ago, a farmer came up
with a new design. This inlet is sim-
ple, economical and very effective. It
consists of a baffle board, counter
balanced with weights. The weights
close the inlet when no fans are run-
ning. As fans start up, and "vacuum"
or static pressure increase in the
barn, the inlet opens. This inlet has to
be set properly when installed; but
then will operate automatically.
If you build it yourself, total costs
will be around $3-$4 per lineal foot. If
your barn is sealed fairly tightly, and
you want an inlet that will circulate
air where YOU want it to, call 482-3428
or 1-800-265-5170, or drop in at the
OMAF Office for a plan.

tains, has a critically important role
to play in that education.
The network officials say that such
advertising touches on the moral,
religious and even political sen-
sitivities of'a significant portion of the
American public.
Well, let me say that those explicit
sex scenes in their television shows
touch the same things.
Out here in the boondocks of rural
Ontario, farmers see all kinds of sex
in the barnyard and the stable and the
fields. Breeding is an accepted part
of farming but I think most farmers
will agree that it belongs in the bar-
nyard, not in the Iivingroom.
When the networks cease to preach
their double standards and clean up
their television shows, perhaps Plann-
ed Parenthood will stop suggesting
that contraceptiyes should be includ-
ed in television advertising.
The networks are the very source
of some of the immorality practised

days in December, but we can plan to
enjoy and make the best use of each
day.
Discuss with your spouse and
children, everyone's expectations for
the festive season. Do you emphasize
family reunions, gift giving, the
spiritual aspect, or a small quiet
celebration?
Make a work plan so that extra
tasks can be done over many days.
Set priorities' and do those tasks at
your best time of day. We often try to
live, by other's priorities; . be sure
these are your own or your family's.
Keep the plan flexible to allow inter-
ruptions without frustration.
Eliminate some tasks if necessary.
and delegate others to family
members. Even young children can
(earn about sharing with those who
are lonely or less forunate than
themselves.
Time is aunique resource. It can be
a gift to yourself that you can use to
meet your family's priorities. When
the Christmas festivities are over.
you can be happy with what you have
achieved and not worried about what
wasn't done.
