Tuesday evening December 9 with
group one in charge. A beautiful
Christmas tree was most attractive.
Mrs. Nancy Rader opened the
meeting with a Christman message.
Shut -in -boxes will be packed prior to
Christmas. Sixteen members
answered the roll call and there was
a large number of guests present.
Mrs. Frieda Hayter introduced the
play "Tell me Doctor". Taking part
were Mrs. Dave Rader, Mrs. Lorne
Becker, Mrs. Howard Datars, Mrs.
Alma Genttner, Mrs. Harry Hayter
and Mrs. Mary. Rader. Everyone en-
joyed the play.
Christmas gifts were distributed. A
candle light service was held in the
church. A delicious lunch was served
by the group in charge.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Becker attend-
ed the funeral of Katherine's aunt,
Ruth Rumford at Strathroy on Satur-
day. A number of relatives and
friends also attended.
Santa Claus arrived in Dashwood
Saturday afternoon with gifts for all
the children and lots of fun.
Members'of the Men's Club made
the fifty-fifty draw with winners 1,
Phil Dietrich, 2, Justin Hayter, 3
Bill Chandler.
UCW meet
Calvary United Church Women met
Tuesday evening December 9 for
their Christmas meeting. A delicious
turkey dinner was enjoyed by
members and guests. A sing song
followed the dinner. Christmas carols
were sung.
The scripture message "The Birth
of Jesus" from Luke 2:1-20 was read
by Mrs. Alice Tieman. Mrs. Bob
Sinasac offered a prayer of joy, hope
and peace for the coming year. Miss
Idella Gabel favoured with a piano
selection - "Romance" and choir
members provided special songs for
the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith of Ex-
eter were introduced by Mrs. Alice
Tieman. They had recently visited
with their son who is serving with a
Mission of the People's Church near
Dakar, Sinegal in French West

Africa. The official language is
French which is spoken quke fluent-
ly by many of the natives. The
climate is dry and temperature
averaging between 80-100 degrees.
The people are extremely under-
nourished eating mostly rice. The
mortality age is 40 - death due to
malaria and cholera. Missions and
money to support them are extreme-
ly important.
Mrs. Harold Hendrick gave
courtesy remarks reminding
everyone that we have much to be
thankful for.
Mrs. Mildred Kellerman shared a
reading "The Bethlehem Road". The
meeting close d by singing Silent
Night.

The Clandeboye Women's Institute
met at the homexof Mrs. Gerald Lynn
for their Christmas meeting. A
delicious pot luck luncheon was en-
joyed at the noon hour, followed by a
Christmas program under the leader-
ship of Ruth Hill.
Carols were sung, a humorous
reading about turkeys was read by
Hazel Cunningham, a Christmas
story "Annie and Willie's Prayer",
Was read by Ruth who also conducted
a game "Robber's Bingo" with prizes
going to Hazel. and Gladys Cunn-
ingham and Kay Armstrong.
Ruth described a'display of crafts
that she and Aggie Groenewegen had
made from pop bottles, Mr. and Mrs.
Santa Claus, also a miniature shopp-
ing bag full of candies.
Draws were made for these and
were won by Irene Lynn, Marion
Hodgson and Jean Hodgins. Name the
foods that traditionally go with
Christmas was conducted by. Kay
Armstrong and numbers were drawn
for the Christmas bake exchange.
During the business, donations
were made to the Ilderton Fair 4-H
Homemaking Competition, Women's
Community House for Battered
Women, The Sexual Assault Centre
and the Children's Hospital of
Western Ontario.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cunningham and
Jill attended the Christmas party for
residents and their families, on Sun-
day, at Craigholme Nursing Home,
Ailsa Craig, where Wilfred Cunn-
ingham is a resident.
Mary and Wilmer Scott and Harold
and Velma Hardy were guests at a
Christmas dinner party Sunday even-
ing when Mrs. Violet Hardy, a resi-
dent of "The Villa" in Lucan, enter-
tained her family at the Knotty Pine
Restaurant, in London. There were
nineteen in attendance. They return-
ed to Lustestospend the evehitig- at
the home of Beulah and Clarence
Hardy.
The Gilmour families got together
for a two meal Christmas dinner par-
ty at the Leprechaun Hall in the
Lucan Community Centre, on Sun-
day. There were over forty in
attendance.
Winnie Robicheau of Clandeboye,
played the piano while Helen Stanley
was organist in a duet of beautiful
Christmas carols while people were
arriving for church Sunday morning.
It was a lovely preparation for
worship.
Both ladies and men enjoyed the
bustrip to the Geritol Follies at
Hamilton; the meal served by the
United Church at Simcoe and all the
lights at Simcoe.
A special guest with Pastor and
Mrs. Mellecke is his mother, Mrs.
Mabel Mellecke of Stillwater,
Minnesota.
Melvin, Gertie and Sherrie Stade
received the sad news that Melvin's
cousin, Len Hopkin of South Burnaby
B.C. passed away Friday night. He
was formerly of St. Thomas.
Dashwood Men's Club met
December 8 with 37 tnembers and 33
guests. They had a delicious turkey
dinner thanks to Dorothy Rader and
Mary Weber. Guest speaker was Cor-
poral Rick Sinnamon who spoke on
breathalizer and general drinking and
driving.
