Back Home to Germany
Farewell to our summer friend,
Simone Gabriel who has spent the last
three months in Canada with Christa
and Ernst Ihrig and two sons (as a
nanny for little Aaron). She got to be
well known by all the staff at
Hessenland Restaurant.
While in Canada Simone learned to
speak English quite well and has a
great sense of humor!
She enjoyed going on several shop-
ping trips and to see such places as
Niagara Falls, Canada's Wonderland
and even to see "Annie" at the play
house in Grand Bend.
On Sunday a little going away par-
ty was held for her after work - com-
plete with cake and a gift from all of
us.
Simone returned home to attend
school in West Germany.

Fall colours
For those who like to take a trip up
north to see the fall colours, they
should soon be at their best from
Huntsville north. They were pretty
nice a week ago in places like Nipiss-
ing Ridge, especially when the sun
was shining, but nothing like the
glorious riot of colour we saw in ear-
ly October last year.

at Maragert Elliott's home on
September 18 -with 15 ladies in atten-
dance. Geraldine Eckel and her group
were in charge of the meeting. After
reading a poem and anof scrip-
ture, Geraldine intro.. -the topic
"Stewardship". Geraldine, Margaret
Robinson and Helen Keys all
presented interesting articles from
the 1986-87 Stewardship magazine.
Geraldine urged our continued sup-
port for the M & S Fund, which makes
it possible for the people whose stories
we heard to serve In so many ways in
many places. After singing a hymn,
we closed the worship service with
prayer.
President Helen Keys took charge
of the business. Nora Keys reported
$1755.62 in the treasury. Heritage
books to be given to those who are
sick or shut in were passed around for
all to see. The Regional meeting is to
be held in Winthrop on September 29
at 6:30 p.m. Our annual turkey dinner
is on October 29. Watch the local
papers for a further announcement.
The Babylon group will be in charge
of this dinner. We will also cater to the

Some nice sunny days would compen-
sate for the short days we are begin-
ning to experience.
The sympathy of residents and staff
is extended to the families of the late
Mrs. Ruby Fowler and Mrs. Mary
Ravelle.
Some of our residents enjoyed a bus.
ride throughout the surrounding area
on Wednesday afternoon. Now that
the weather is either too cool or too
wet, activities are picking up indoors.
The men keep the pool table and the
new shuffleboard in the auditorium
quite busy, while the ladies are very
busy in the craft room making
autumn decorations, gifts of all sorts,
stuffed toys and, I am a bit reluctant
to mention, articles for Christmas,
which will arrive before we know it.
We regret that Miss Ethel Hess is
a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
We welcome residents Mr. John
Soldan of the Zurich area and Mrs.
Hazel Stebbins of Grand Bend.
Bingo was` played on Friday even-
ing followed by refreshments.
The Sunday evening chapel service
was conducted by Rev. Aubrey Bell
of Bayfield Anglican Church.

Rempel, organist at Victoria Avenue
United Church in Chatham.
Barbara Ann Parker, with her cute
bunny puppet, explained to the
children how our church came to be
built. Sam's twin brother Cam, who
is to be ordained next year, read por-
tions of scripture.
The Parker's enjoyed the company
of the guests aj the manse the rest of
the day.
