Preaches in home church
On the fiftieth Anniversary of his
becoming a candidate for the Chris-
tian ministry Rev. Dr. Alex Filshie
came back to his home church of Hen-
sall.United to speak to the congrega-
tion. Dr. Flishie became a candidate
for the ministry while his mother was
principal of the Hensall Continuation
School in 1936.
Since that time Dr. Filshie has serv-
ed the church his country and is now
retired in the town of Sebringville. As
well as studying in Canada he took
further studies in Cambridge Univer-
sity in England. He received his doc-
torate but is more proud of having
received the M.B.E.
The service was conducted by Rev.
McDonald with Belva Fuss at the
organ. Special music for the day was
given by the Dashwood Quartette
which everyone enjoyed so very
much.
Greeting at the door was Hilda
Payne and Elizabeth Thompson, Pam
Gackstetter, Diane Stebbins and
Mary Jane Parsons were the ushers.
Dr. Filshie took as his scripture the
story of Jesus going up to the temple
and related it to his life and his growth
as a Christian saying that the centre
of every life there must be Christ.
Following the service a fellowship
hour was held in the Fellowshi s Hall
with Barbara Gackstetter as hostess.
Everyone enjoyed renewing ac-
quaintances with the many visitors
that were present. Minnie Noakes
brought in a school picture at the time
that Dr. Filshie was a boy in Hensall.
This created a lot of interest and
remembrance.
The congregation was reminded of
the Vacation Church School beginning
Monday, June 30 and an invitation
was extended to the congregation to
attend the Open House and Closing
Program of Vacation School on Fri-
day at 10:00 a.m.
The flowers at the front of the
church were placed by Hilda and Carl
Payne in loving memory of their
granddaughter Denise Darlene and in
honour of the marriage of Mark Con-
sitt and Sandra Towers which was
held in the church on Saturday.

bedraggled.
