David Eighteen -year-old Karla Josephson, Exeter, heads a list of an even dozen grade 13 students at South Huron District High School who have been named as Ontario Scholars this year. Topping her class is nothing new for the daughter of Dr. Gaylen and Evelyn Josephson. After placing se- cond in grade nine, a mere half a percentage point behind the leader, she went on to top her class in the four subsequent years. Her grade 13 average was 92.3 and marked the fifth consecutive year In which her average was over 90. Karla, who is the assistant super- visor at the Exeter swimming pool this season, plans to enrol at the Tops class for fourth year SHDHS Ontario Scholars Unversity of Guelph this fall and follow in her father's footsteps as a veterinarian. After her first year, she'll enrol in the re -vet course which will take another five years to complete. "It was a lot of hard work," she ex- plained simply in reference to her scholastic achievements at the local high school. Tom Kester, son of Adrian and Marie, RR 2 Dashwood, followed a close second with a 91.5 average, while the third and fourth place students also topped the 90 average mark. Cathy Hogan, daughter of Joe and Ruth; 309 Marlborough St., Exeter, placed third,. while 1966 school queen Irene Brand was fourth. She is the daughter of Rennie lirand, RR 1 Exeter. At the conclusion of the service, Bill Schaefer gave words of thanks to Reverend Peter Derrick for his past three and one half years of his ministry in the.parish. He then called on Mrs. Nadine Bedell, people's warden of Saintsbury who presented a gift to the Derricks on behalf of Saintsbury congregation followed by Bill Waghorn, people's warden of St. Paul's who presented a gift on behalf of St. Paul's Kirkton congregation. By MRS. HEBER DAVIS Family service was held at St. Pauls Church, Kirkton Sunday mor- ning for the congregation of St. Patrick's, Saintsbury and St. Thomas Granton to a capacity crowd. Rev. Peter Derrick conducted his last service as rector of the three churches. Mrs. Nadine Bedell Ministers Warden of St. Patricks and Bill Waghorn ministers Warden at St. Paula presented gifts to Rev. and Mrs. Derrick. At the close of the ser- vice a social hour was held.
