Youth guests attend
Church of God event
Un Saturday, 15 youths and their
leaders spent an interesting evening
with the Church of God youths, G.B.
They began with a volleyball game at
the public school gym and ended the
night with a 1114.2 at the home of Katie
Vincent.
On Sunday morning, the disciple
group from the Zurich Mennonite
church presented a challenging pro-
gram of song and testimony here in
Grand Bend- Four young ladies and
Iwo young men have been assisted by
Doug Steckle.
The congregation was glad to
welcome a large number of youth who
were camping in the area.
Last week Pastor Campbell attend-
ed the annual meeting of the Mis-
sionaries Board of the Church of God
in Anderson. Indiana. During the
week he was re-elected to the Board
of Directors.
Catholic Update
Sunday was the Feast of the Ascen-
sion of Our Lord, celebrated at the
Catholic church. Grand Bend. Father.,
Morrissey's sermon dealt with the
topic 01 spiritual unity within
ourselves. If we make Christ the
center of our lives. we can channel all
our natural basic drives to become
healthy. useful persons. he
commented.

Vandergunst, %rho was initated into
the Catholic community this past
week by the Sacrament of Baptism.
There will be an Encor Sunday on
May 26 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm, at St.
Boniface Parish. Zurich. Stratford
has been chosen as the host site for
the southwestern Ontario regional
Games for the physically disabled. It
will he held from May 31 until June 2.
3-11 Club
The 'Safety Supremes' club met at
the home of Loreen Gill, on Tuesday.

Vandenberk presided over the
meeting. Kathy Allister conducted a
session on water safety. 'Phis includ-
ed safety in canoeing. boating, skiing
and home swimming pools and also
hypothermia.
After a demonstration the girls
paired off and practised rescue
breathing. The members spent the
rest of their -time working on their
record books.
Attend Uistriet Annual
Eight ladies from the Grand Rend
Women's Institute attended the
Huron -South District annual on
Thursday. May •I(; at the Ushorne
Central School.
The program theme was 'we are
alive while there are youth in the
world.' (Tara Itamillorn was one of 17
ladies presented with a district life
membership. having served as the
district -secretary -treasurer for a
number of years.
The guest speaker was Bert
Palmer. London. He spoke on the
Child Identification program.
The next regular meeting will be
held on Thursday A1ay 2:3 at 7::30 pin
in the United Church basement.

Summer staff hired
for hcirbour duties
The Grand Bend harbour (bnnit-
tee meeting was held on Wednesday
May 15 at 7:30.
Ontario Provincial Police Sargeant
Gordon Adams and Constable John
Titnpson were introduced Adams un-
formed members that he would be
departing in five weeks and Sgt. Jerry
Hillman from the Pinery would be
stationed here for the summer. The
U.P.P. boat in Forest. will be station-
ed in Grand Bend and available for
most weekends.
Summer. employees hired for this
summer are David Gill, harbour-
master -and Patti Love for assistant
-harbourmaster, (both from Grand
Bend 1. Gill will be paid a wage of $5.00
per hour and Love will receive $4.5(P-
per hour. Scott Hayter. GB. Dana
Bozzato. Zurich and Alan Hether-
ington. London, were the students
hired to start this past weekend. and
will receive $4.00 per hour.
it was recommended that the Ilar-
bour purchase five shirts with
silkscreen and ten -pairs of shorts and
socks to serve as uniforms for the
Harbour Staff for this season.
1t was pointed out that the dock at-
tendants are allowed to pump the gas,
boaters are not to pump their own
fuel. Employees will be staining the
new docks this week. -
Correspondence was received from
the GB Cruising ('tub stating that
their group would be interested in
leasing an area of property directly
across from the club, known as Mini
Park. A seasonal rate of $50.00 with
an option of two additional years lease
was proposed. Members of the Cruis-
ing Club were asked to attend the next
Harbour meeting on June 5 for fur-
ther discussion.
Larry Whiting, harbourmember, ..
was appointed as dockage inspector
for the 1985 season. In other new
business, the Coast Guard was to be
advised of complaints about the new
tower lighting system on the end of
the pier. Boaters are having difficult
ty getting into the harbour as the'
range light is no longer there.
Mery Sharpe. from the South Beach
Association. expressed his concern
over a large boulder with an opening
in it on the south beach. He feared
that a curious small child could
become caught inside the hole. Den-
nis Snider and Dave Gill will look
after the situation. -
The meeting was adjourned at 1(1:311
p.m.
Legion Activities
On Thursday. at 10:30 am the
Legion hosted a coffeee break tupper-
ware party. Marg lledley, organizer,
would like to thank all those who
helped to make the event a success,
especially Vilda Clark and Dee Rath.
The proceeds will provide kitchen
equipment.
On Saturday evening 62 people
were served at the Legion's first an-
nual barbeque steak night. Chefs
George Gallant and Todd Desauhniers
were kept busy with the steaks, while
waiters Tony Gaudio. Bob Medley and
Alex Russell served their guests.
Grand Bend Legion members wish
Anne Preston -Fischer a speedy
recovery. On June 1. the Legion will
hold its grand opening starting at
11:(10 a.m. with a BBQ and dance to
finish off the ceremonies.

members attending. New president.

after all three masses over (he holi-
•day weekend. to welcome back all the
summer parishioners.

CWL members earned $366 in the
bowling for Cancer Iast.month. Em-

told about the April birthday enter-
tainment evening at the Blue Water
Rest home. involving member, of the
Girl Guides and church choir.
Carol Luther has scheduled various
families to recite the rosary before
each mass during the.monlh of may.
in honor of Our Blessed Mother. Nan-
cy Stokkermans gave a report from
the Diocesan Convention held in Lon-
don. with speaker Sister Kathleen
Mary Flinn. "Journey Into Steward-
ship" was her topic about the various
needs in our community; two resolu-
tions were passed. one protesting the
Bell Canada price increase and the
other sutwrting the rehabilitation ser-
vices for the mentally ill.
Toni Vandenberk passed out tickets
for the quill raffle which each
member will be selling. -
Roberta Walker introduced the
guest speaker. Paul 'Turnbull. Public
Educa lin i i)irector for Arc In-
dustries. who presented an inloi•-
(native slide show and discussion of
the various projects by S.II.D.A.M.il.
This included the group homes in Ex-
eter, Huron -Hope facilities and The
Flowers of Hope campaign being con-
ducted this month. The evening end-
ed with a delicious cake made at Arc
, Industr•ies•being served to all.
