the Exeter juniors by a score of 5-2
and Sunday they swept a
doubleheader over Walkerton in
regular Great Lades senior play by
scores of 8-2 and 4-1.
Jett Fuller and Paul Gilmour
shared pitching duties tor the Express
in the exhibition win over the local
juniors. Fuller went the first five in-
nings allowing two runs and tour hits
while recording seven strikeouts.
Gilmour allowed one hit in throwing
Iwo scoreless innings and fanning
two.
The only junior runs came in the
third frame when Jell Pfaff singled
and romped home on a home run
tr•orn the hat of Kevin Drager.
The Express scored a pair of runs
in the opening inning as Dave Atthill
walked, Doug !helium doubled and
both scored as Kevin Hem singled
and Brian Horner cracked out a
double.

In the first Great Lakes game of the
season Sunday, the Express scored
five tithes in the bottom of the sixth
inning to clinch an 8-3 win over
Walkerton in the first halt of the twin
bill.
Each team scored a run in the se-
cond inning and the visitors counted
their second and final score in the
third.
Doug Hoffman singled, stole second
and scored on a similar hit by Brian

Ernie Schlegel and Randy Malcolm
shared the pitching duties for Nairn.

weather for a round of golf Wednes-
day at Ironwood.

Soccer team
in H -P finals
For the first time in the history oI
soccer at SlID11S, the senior kickers
are in the Huron -Perth finals.
The Panthers defeated Stratford
Central by a 5-2 score in conference
seri-final action, to advance to the
Idiots. In the other semi-final match
up, first place Goderich was beaten
by St. Marys, thus giving home field
advantage to South Ituron for the final,-
yesterday.

In the Central match -up. the locals
did all of their scoring in the first t5
minutes of the game. Local scorers
were Dorkeo Chamsanu►nre with two
goals and Scott Miller. Dale Regier.
and Sivilay Sengkhounmany with one
each.
South Huron dominated the first
half, playing some of their best soc-
cer of the season. The second half was
a different story. Tho local seniors
found themselves playing two men
short after Brett Batten and Sivilay
Sengkhounntany were ejected from
the game.
The Panthers held Central to only
one goal in the 10 minutes they were
short-handed and despite the lack of
manpower. the locals came close on
one occasion to denting the twine
themselves.
The seniors hoped to duplicate the
feat of heating the Stonetown team
yesterday in the final. The Panthers
out -scored St. Marys 4-3 when the
teams met in the regular season.
Ilome field advantage was con-
sidered of utmost importance for the
final. A short period day was run at
the high school. allowing students the
opportunity to see the senior Panthers
in -their first ever -soccer final.
"We're really excited. A big. noisy
crowd should help." says rookie right
winger Dale Regier but quicklypoints
out. "But we're not too over confident.
They'll he tough-."
Students, teachers and especially
players are excited at the thought ot
a soccer championship. It would he a
first for the local high school.
