BIG AID Bowlers from the Town and•Country bowling lanes in Zurich raised $1,832.05 in the Big
Brothers and Big Sisters Bowl for Millions this year. Saturday night, the bowlers were presented with

Grades two and three
April was an interesting month for
grades two and three. One new fact
and many activities kept everyone
very busy. On April 1 a new girl. Toni
Stephenson. arrived to join to grade
3 class.•
Every Thursday morning grade 3
goes for swimming lessons at
Vanastra. They go with Ms.
Querengueser and grade 4.
One sunny afternoon all the grade
2s look a walk around Zurich to map
the streets. Mrs. Vair and Mrs. Kirk
went along to help.
Kevin Carson. Jaime and Jodie
McGee were winners in a poster con-
test sponsored by the ilorne and
Farm Safety Association. They plac-
ed second, third and fourth.

After attending a puppet workshop
at Stephen Central on April 16 and 17.
Joel Siebert taught the class how 10
make box puppets.
(:rade four and five
Grade 4 is very lucky this month to
be able to go to Vanastra for swimm-
ing lessons. The grade :3 class goes as
well.
Two students from grade 4, Paula
Watson and Jason Erb. attended a
mini -course al Stephen Central
School. The topic was "Imaginary
Friends" and they did story -writing.

Grades six and seven
(h► Friday. April 19. grades 6.7 and
8 went to J.A.D. McCurdy to watch
the Tapestry Singers perform. their
main topic was Dominion ('hataqua.
On April 29 Mr. Mcllecke from
Brandon University in Brandon.
Manitoba came to help out the grade
6s and 7s Ile will be here for two
weeks
This month grade 6 has been work-
ing at radio plays role playing.

On Friday. April 26 our boys' and
girls' basketball teams participated
in the annual tournament The boys
played at McCurdy Public School and
the girls played al Exeter Public
School
Zurich girl excels at
track and field meet
Congratulations to Beth Sweeney on
winning a plaque as most oustanding
midget girl when a team from South
Huron and district High School par-
ticipated in the Petrolia track and
field meet held last Monday.
Beth entered four events and won
four ribbons, including firsts in the
800m and 1500m. She ran the latter in
5:11 minutes, setting a record;
Beth also competed in two relays,
coming first and second in those heats
and placing fourth over-all.
Bowling Banquet
A very nice time was had by all who
attended the Bowling Banquet at the
Hensall arena on Saturday. Ladies'
and Mens' teams along with their
spouses enjoyed a delicious ham and
roast beef supper catered by Birdie
Finkbeiner.
Following the meal, residents of
both leagues presented the trophies
and awards to the winning bowlers
and teams. Gifts were handed out to
those who had the most pledges in the
recent "Bowl for Millions" for the Big
Brother and Sisters organization.
A special thanks went out to Tony
and Marlene Bedard, proprietors of
Town and Country Lanes for all their
hard work and dedication. They
received a gift from the bowlers, and
a voucher for dinner at Robindale's
in Exeter from the Big Brothers.
Next years executive team for the
ladies' league will be the Town and
Country Six, While the New Comers
will be for the men's. Dancing to the
terrific music supplied by Mozart's
Melody Makers ended a nice evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Juiles Corriveau of
Bloomfield Hills Michigan spenrthe
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred
Corriveau. Their daughter Beverly
Morris. with Monique and Shawn
visited on Friday and Saturday from
lake Orion, Michigan.
Skaters' Banquet
The Zurich and Area figure skating
club banquet will be tomorrow,
Thursday May 9 at the Community
Centre.
.An appreciative audience was in at-
tendance at the Zurich Lutheran
Church on Sunday evening May 5 to
enjoy a choral presentation by the
Canadian Welsh Singers of London
under the direction of Karen Ann
Schuessler.
On Sunday afternoon the Rockway
Senior Choir sang at the Mennonite
Church.
Erb on Ethiopia
A lovely evening was had by
everyone last Thursday May 2 at the
United Church along with some
visiting groups, to hear a very in-
teresting and informative talk on
Ethiopia and slides presented by Gor-
don Erb of where his daughter, Carol
and husband Cyril Gingerich live

The coming Saturday and Sunday
May 11 and 12 will be the C.W.L.
Membership drive at Sf Peter's
Parish, St. Joseph at the back of
church before and after each mass.

Sl. Boniface Youth Group
The Youth Group of St. Boniface
and St. Peter's heard a very in-
teresting speaker from Goderich at
their program Sunday night dealing
on "Alcohol and Other Drugs" along
with a film and discussion period.

"Craig Michael Masse", son of
Mike and Lori, was baptized on Sun-
day May 5 al St. Peter's Catholic
Church by Fr. John Bensettewith
his godparents being; Joanne Masse
and Steve Jaques.
Also baptized at St. Peter's on Sun-
day was Carin Nicole Laporte
daughter of Jean Pierre and Cathy.

The ladies auxiliary held their mon-
thly meeting at the Rest Home on
Tuesday evening. Plans were finaliz-
ed for the Mother's Day Bake Sale
and Tea on Saturday May 11.

Boniface School made their group Ho-
ly Communion on Sunday morning at
the 9:00 Mass.
Hay township roads superinten-
dent, Ross Fisher attended the C.S.
Anderson Roads School at the Univer-
sity in Guelph from Monday to
Wednesday of this week. Zurich
Superintendent, Dennis Regier was
there also.
May is "Flowers of Hope" month,
and volunteers will soon be canvass-
ing for the Mentally Handicapped. 1
Family Party
A family get-together, supper and
birthday party was held at the new
home of Ted and Janet Soudant on
Sunday with grandparents and some
relatives present to help children
Mark celebrate his lst birthday on
May 18 and Nicole's 3rd on May 7.
